and figure out why paul manafort in these phone calls with his loved ones might say he's getting better treatment than he actually is. might sound more chipper than he actually is. manafort's attorney says they are abiding by all the rules in this detention center when it comes to e-mails. and they took a swipe at special counsel's office saying they were laucavalier in dismissing challenges. >> thanks very much. let's get some analysis. jeffrey toobin, what's your reaction? give us your reaction to this latest maneuvering by paul manafort and his lawyers, and what does it say to you about the nature of this case? >> well, his lawyers are doing what good lawyers do. they are challenging the evidence in their case, and so far they have been unsuccessful, but that doesn't mean it isn't the right thing to do. it is a very unusual situation to have the same defendant awaiting trial in two separate jurisdictions. one trial stacked up right behind the other. it is also true that it does seem that paul manafort is getting a hell of a lot better treatment in jail than most
