this was a painful thing for many people in the leadership. there were many people in the party, not the least of which is karl rove, which blamed congress for the foley scandal. never mind what was going on with iraq and everything else at the time. so i can understand why these errors are so big and loom so large and why they see it as an office unity for themselves to exact some revenge and punish some democrats. >> don't they want to take some attention off the sex scandal? they have the biggest one going on with john ensign in nevada, and they've got senator vitter still there in the senate. this is an area that is not a place i think they want public taep attention, is it? >> clean hands are not in ample supply in congress. that's never been a problem. as i recall in recent history, look at the monica scandal.
