the white house has issued a letter, a white house lawyer, essentially saying to elijah cummings, you have asked us for all this information about security clearances, which are an inherently executive branch function. you, the congress, have no right to inquire into this. you certainly don't have a right to know what the fbi and cia determined about jared kushner's fitness for a security clearance. and elijah cummings has responded this hour saying, well, in fact, there's plenty of press dependent for congre precedent for congress obtaining informing about fbi background checks. it may be in a normal circumstance we don't have the right to this information, but you, president trump, clearly have abused the security clearance process. you've abused your authority, and we have every right as congress to oversee and find out whether there's wrongdoing. this is a legal battle that's going to play out over time. it's an example, thoerks ugh, o it's not so easy to get information. it takes time. >> so should we expect a subpoena for this information? >> i think absolutely. but you can also expect a lengthy court battle over that subpoena.
