Tyler Huang, owner of Queertique in downtown Palm Springs, is doing what he can to encourage his shop employees and customers to wear masks indoors — even if they're vaccinated against COVID-19. His main reason? Because breakthrough cases among vaccinated individuals are possible. He knows that reality first-hand: Huang was one of several people who fell ill with COVID-19 after a recent business trip to Provincetown, Massachusetts, where an outbreak of hundreds of infections, even among fully vaccinated individuals, occurred last month. Following several public events between July 3 and 17 in Provincetown, 469 COVID-19 cases were found among Massachusetts residents, and 346 (74%) were among fully vaccinated individuals, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.
