Advancing the school education in Putonghua is very important as the Hong Kong youth would be in a disadvantageous position if they can't speak Putonghua, the common language used nationwide in China, and if some conditions can be met, local schools in Hong Kong should carry on education in Putonghua, Christine Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, told the Global Times in an exclusive interview.
