Hong Kong's national security law reached its half-year mark on Wednesday as the city prepared to send off a turbulent 2020.
The Beijing-imposed legislation continued its ripple effect over the past month, with the spotlight on media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying. The 73-year-old was remanded for 20 days after first being charged with fraud, then with collusion with foreign forces under the new law. He was subsequently granted bail over the strong objection of government prosecutors.
