From 2016: How Iowa City remembered the devastating 2006 tornado 10 years later Andy Davis, Iowa City Press-Citizen Editors note: This story was republished on April 13, 2021, the 15th anniversary of the tornado touching down in Iowa City. "It was 8:35 Thursday night, April 13. I'll always remember the time because all of the clocks stopped when the electricity went out." It's been 10 years since a tornado slammed into Gloria Walsh's Iowa City home and damaged it beyond recognition. A reminder can still be seen in the checkerboard pattern of replaced brickwork near the top of the 930 Iowa Ave. home, rebuilt with salvaged bricks from a destroyed law firm near the old post office building downtown.
