Photo: iStock photo About a year ago, we began to research and plan our Social Capital section and its initial honorees smack dab in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. The idea wasn’t born of or was a reaction to the pandemic, but that did become a big part of who we picked and how we picked them. Since the whole idea was to recognize leaders who realized the importance and value of people and how to help them through the power of Capitalism, we paid special attention to which leaders were especially helpful to their customers and their employees through the pandemic. When we finally announced our first honorees in September, how these leaders reacted and responded to one of the greatest societal challenges in modern history was a necessary component for us to decide if we would honor them.
