Medan refugees demonstrate for speedy resettlement in third countries 19th December 2020 (ANTARA/HO) Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Several asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Iraq held a peaceful rally in front of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Medan, North Sumatra, on Friday, seeking swift resettlement in third countries. "We have been staying in Medan for seven years. I, myself, have been here for eight years," the rally's coordinator, Muhammad Zai, notified local journalists in this capital city of North Sumatra Province. During that long waiting period, the UNHCR officials had yet to repatriate them for the settlement program in any of the destination countries, such as Australia, New Zealand, the US, and Canada, Zai remarked.
