Newark’s mayor: No charter school ‘suppression,’ as editorial claimed | Letters Updated Feb 17, 2021; Facebook Share The recent Star-Ledger editorial, “In Newark, new fights over charter schools,” is another in a series of attacks on Superintendent Roger León and his goal of creating an equitable and successful public school system for all Newark children. We are used to seeing divisive, extreme language in Star-Ledger editorials. This one describes León’s efforts as “hostile” (twice), his decisions as “absurd” and accuses him of “sabotage” as he tries to correctly bring our public system to an educational level that will not require such a large presence of charter schools.
