TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams will be competing at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials starting on Friday. The 2021 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials – Wave I will run from June 4-7 in Omaha, Nebraska at the CHI Health Center, while the U.S. Diving Trials will be held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana from June 6-13. “We’re so excited for our Noles to compete at US Olympic Trials,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “It is one of the toughest competitions in the world. This is an amazing achievement and experience for them.” Prelims each day will start at 10 a.m. (CT) The top 16 in each event will advance to finals. Finals will start at 8 p.m. (CT) and will air on the Olympic Channel. Zach Smith – 200m fly Free/Fly – sophomore After his rookie season, Smith qualified for Olympic Trials at the 2021 GA SwimAtlanta’s Mizuno Classic in May in the 200m fly by placing 11th following a 2.42 second time drop (2:00.35). The Sykesville, Maryland, native will race on Friday, where he is seeded sixth. Smith placed 12th in the 1650 free behind a personal best of 15:14.99 and was 14th in the 200 fly (1:46.94) after posting a personal best in prelims at 1:46.13 at the ACC Championships. Noah Young – 100m & 200m Back Back – redshirt sophomore Young made his Olympic Trials cuts in both the 100m (56.16) and 200m (2:01.50) back at the 2019 Pro Swim Series in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Springboro, Ohio, native, seeded in 19th in the 100m back and will race it on Friday. He will follow with the 200m back, where he is ranked seventh. As a Seminole, Young has added depth to the backstroke events in 2020-21 after taking a redshirt season in 2019-20. Nick Mason – 200m Back IM/Back/Fly – junior Mason qualified for Olympic Trials in 2019 and is seeded 38th (2:02.93). He will swim the event along with Young. Mason set the 400 IM school record as sophomore at 3:45.50 and he was also an NCAA qualifier. He scored 11th place points in the race at the ACC Championships (3:47.54) and also won the bonus heat of the 200 fly (1:45.28) behind a personal best. Jackson Seith – 100m Breast Seith qualified for Olympic Trials at the 2019 FL TYR ISCA Summer Senior Championships in the 100m breast at 1:03.27. The Summerville, S.C., native will compete on Saturday where he is seeded 77th. Seith closed out his FSU career in 2021. He scored points in the 100 breast at the 2019 ACC Championships (54.41). Madeline Huggins – 100m & 200m Breast A member of the 2020-21 signing class, Huggins qualified for Olympic Trials in both the 100m and 200m breast at the 2021 OK Region VIII Spring Sectional in March of 2021. Huggins will represent Saluki Swim Club and will compete on Saturday in the 100m breast (1:10.10), where she is seeded 12th. She will close out the meet by swimming the 200m breast (2:33.23) where she is seeded 28th. Joshua Davidson – 3-meter Redshirt Senior Davidson earned his spot at the meet over the course of his collegiate career, where he is a four-time NCAA qualifier, All-American HM and ACC Champion. Davidson also earned a bronze medal at the 2019 USA Diving Winter National Championships and was named to the USA Diving High Performance – Tier 3 Team last season. This Tomball, Texas, native will compete in the 3-meter prelims at 10 a.m. on June 9. Semifinals will follow at 7 p.m. Katrina Young – 10M platform & 10M synchro 2010-15 A 2016 Olympian, Young will compete in her third Olympic Trials. In 2012, Young finished 12th and followed by placing second in 2016 on 10-meter. The Shoreline, Washington, native, placed 13th at the Olympic Games and continued to compete on the USA Diving High Performance Team. Young won the 10-meter national title in 2018. In 2019, Young won bronze at the FINA World Championships while teamed up with Samantha Bromberg. She also brought home bronze in the team event alongside Andrew Capobianco. Young and Bromberg will start by competing in prelims of 10M synchro on June 7 at 11 a.m. Semifinals will follow at 7 p.m. The final will take place on June 10 at 7 p.m. Individual prelims for 10-meter will start at 2 p.m. on June 9 and semifinals will follow at 9 p.m. The final will take place on June 13 at 8:50 p.m. International Meets Emma Terebo is also scheduled to compete at the Championnats de France Elite (June 15-20) and Nina Kucheran and Aryanna Fernandes will race in the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials (June 19-23). After competing in the European Championships for Bulgaria, Yordan Yanchev will also race in the Bulgarian Open (June 24-27). Izaak Bastian will be swimming at the Bahamas National Championships, looking to qualify for the Olympic Games (June 24-27).
