Results GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 15 Florida State swimming and diving team is officially headed to the NCAA Championships in March after posting and automatic qualifying time in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday to open the 2021 ACC Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The team of freshman Mason Herbet, junior Izaak Bastian, junior Max McCusker and sophomore Peter Varjasi clocked an time of 1:23.91, dropping 1.69 seconds from their seeded time in order to win the second heat of timed finals. Following the third and final heat, the Seminoles would tie for fourth place overall with No. 13 Virginia Tech. “We’re very excited with the 200 medley relay and getting the NCAA ‘A’ cut,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “It takes the pressure off relays for the rest of the week. Mason had a great leadoff split at 21.11 and for a freshman, that’s amazing.” Herbet’s split of 21.11 is the third fastest in school history behind Pavel Sankovich, who clocked 20.99 and 21.05 ACCs back in 2013 and 2014. The team of freshman Yordan Yanchev, junior Jakub Ksiazek, junior Santi Corredor and sophomore Aziz Ghaffari swam an NCAA provisional time of 6:21.26 for eighth place in the 800 free relay. Yanchev led off the race with a split of 1:35.35 in the 200 free, which is the eighth fastest time in school history. “The 800 guys were a little off,” Studd added. “But they got the cut to do it at NCAAs so that’s nice too.” With 3-meter diving factored into the scores, the Seminoles are in sixth place with a total of 123 points, trailing closely behind No. 5 NC State (128) and No. 22 Georgia Tech (130). No. 18 North Carolina is the current leader at 186 points. Individual races for the Seminoles will start on Thursday at 10 a.m. and will feature the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free. The top 24 swimmers in each race will compete in finals starting at 6 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra and live timing will be available through meet mobile. No spectators will be allowed at the meet. The men’s diving portion of the event took place last week, with the Seminoles scoring 110 points, which is the fifth-highest total in the meet.
