Yanchev, 500 Free, Highlight Noles on Day 2 of ACCs

Results  GREENSBORO, N.C.  –  Freshman Yordan Yanchev highlighted the second day of the 2021 ACC Championships for the No. 15 Florida State swimming and diving team by finishing in fifth place in the 500 free with a time of 4:16.66. Yanchev ran away with the heat one victory in prelims, clocking (NCAA B) 4:15.02, which was the second fastest time in school history behind Kyle Young’s school record of 4:14.60 set in 2009. His performance was also under the previous NCAA invited time. The Bulgarian went into finals seeded fourth, becoming the first ‘A’ finalist in the race since 2013. At night, Yanchev paced with the leaders early, but found himself in a three-way battle for fourth place toward the end of the race.  Yanchev held on to finish fifth, slightly off his morning swim of 4:16.66. The Seminoles also added another NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 200 free relay of 1:16.82 behind junior Jakub Ksiazek, sophomore Peter Varjasi, freshman Mason Herbet and junior Max M ....

Noles Qualify for NCAAs on First Night of ACCs

Results GREENSBORO, N.C.  –  The No. 15 Florida State swimming and diving team is officially headed to the NCAA Championships in March after posting and automatic qualifying time in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday to open the 2021 ACC Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The team of freshman Mason Herbet, junior Izaak Bastian, junior Max McCusker and sophomore Peter Varjasi clocked an time of 1:23.91, dropping 1.69 seconds from their seeded time in order to win the second heat of timed finals. Following the third and final heat, the Seminoles would tie for fourth place overall with No. 13 Virginia Tech. “We’re very excited with the 200 medley relay and getting the NCAA ‘A’ cut,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “It takes the pressure off relays for the rest of the week. Men's Swimming to Take Over ACCs on Wednesday

Notes • Schedule of Events TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  –  The 2021 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships will resume on Wednesday and run through Saturday with men’s swimming at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. No. 15 Florida State will be one of nine nationally-ranked squads competing this week. “We’re excited to get started this week,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “The guys have been great all year and are really ready to do something special.” The Seminoles finished the 2020-21 season undefeated for the first time since 1997 at 6-0, 1-0 ACC. FSU had key wins over RV Georgia Tech, TCU and for the first time in program history, No. 22 Auburn. The Meet The 200 medley relay will take off at 5:15 p.m., and the 800 free relay will follow shortly after. Individual races for the Seminoles will start on Thursday at 10 a.m. and will feature the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free. Quaglieri Paces Noles with New 100 Back Record


GREENSBORO, N.C.  – Florida State sophomore Tania Quaglieri became the fastest Seminole in history in the 100 back, clocking a time of 52.17 at the 2021 Women’s ACC Championships and the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Friday.
Quaglieri advanced to the championship heat of the 100 back in eighth place after swimming a personal best of 52.97 in prelims.
Working from lane eight at night, Quaglieri used her speed in the front half of the race to set the tone.
The Nonatola, Italy, native, touched in sixth place (52.17), dropping almost two seconds from her seed time (53.90) in order to set the school record.  She took down McKayla Lightbourn’s mark of 52.39 that was set back in 2014. ....
