The COVID death counts for New York reported by state and federal officials vary by hundreds in some counties outside New York City.
In Westchester County, for example, the COVID death toll is 2,960, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The state Department of Health count? About 2,481 deaths.
In Monroe County, CDC says 1,600 COVID deaths occurred, compared to 1,261 fatalities reported by state health officials.
Similar reporting gaps exist in counties across the Finger Lakes, Hudson Valley, Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley, according to a USA TODAY Network review of the latest state and federal data.
