Mar 3, 2021 12:07 AM Russ Byth West Kelowna Fire Rescue members had to wear special gear to save a man who had fallen through the ice on Shannon Lake yesterday. He was about 20 feet offshore hanging on to the ice when firefighters got to him. Chief Jason Brolund says two days of temperatures above 10 should leave no doubt that ice season on the valley-bottom lakes is over and people should stay off the remaining ice as it quickly disappears. The provincial government is providing funding for more licensed child care spaces in the central Okanagan. 37 spaces will be created in Kelowna while there will be 81 in Lake Country. Victoria says since July of 2018, 241 new spaces have been created in Kelowna.
