View Comments The Senate Armed Services Committee wants the Pentagon to keep the A-10 "Warthog" fighter jet flying for at least another year and keep more of them able to do so as part of a national defense spending plan that advanced late Wednesday. The committee, which includes Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., sent its budget recommendations to the full Senate with bipartisan support after a closed-door meeting. The budget plan would provide the Defense Department about $740 billion, which is $25 billion more than President Joe Biden requested in his spending plan. The House Armed Services Committee has yet to make its budget recommendations. Both chambers will need to reconcile any differences before the defense budget is enacted.
