PORTSMOUTH — The state’s two Democratic U.S. senators and Maine’s independent U.S. senator gave the nation's new deputy secretary of defense a tour Wednesday of the region’s two military bases — the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery and the N.H. Air Guard 157th Air Refueling Wing at Pease. While it was largely a show and tell for Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks to see the ongoing construction of a new superflood basin at the shipyard and the new fleet of 12 KC-46A refueling tankers at the Air Guard base here, there are some underlying issues at both locations.
