Editorial As pandemic ebbs, scientists modify their message A subtle shift in messaging by state officials on COVID-19 vaccinations represents a noteworthy change in efforts to end the pandemic. It came last week, when Indiana Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box and Dr. Lindsay Weaver, state Department of Health chief medical officer, spoke during a news conference that highlighted new opportunities for children age 12 to 15 to get vaccinated. Each said shots for those children ensure students won't have to quarantine and miss out on valuable in-person learning. Vaccinations also mean participation in sports and other extracurricular activities will be uninterrupted. “I am excited for this next step both as a physician and a parent,” Weaver said. “I want my oldest daughter who has been so worried ... to finally have peace of mind.”
