Wednesday 10 March 2021 Paul Henderson can’t remember the journey to Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital on March 24, 2020, but he knows that he arrived at two in the afternoon and nine hours later he was on a life support machine. His next recollection is waking up in the hospital’s intensive care unit in a frenzied state as doctors explained that his case of Covid-19 was so severe he had been placed in a medically induced coma for 30 days. Slowly, as the medication started to wear off, the full details of his illness were revealed to him by doctors and nurses on the ward.
