The low five teams in the NCAA Regional, as well as the top qualifying individual from a non-advancing team, will advance to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship held May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
“We have 10 or 11 really, really good golf teams coming in here,” FSU Head Coach Trey Jones said. “Just because a team is a 10th seed in a regional this year, with COVID and the rankings as messed up as they are, a Southern Cal team coming as a 10-seed, a TCU as a 7-seed…We need to go establish ourselves early versus trying to catch some people on our home golf course.”
The Seminole Legacy Golf Club will play at 7,505 yards, just short of its approximate 7,800 yard length it can actually play. FSU welcomes No. 2 seed Georgia, Liberty (3), LSU (4), Georgia Tech (5), Georgia Southern (6), TCU (7), Indiana (8), Kansas (9), USC (10), Ohio State (11), Davidson (12), Florida A&M (13) and LIU (14).
Florida State’s five-player lineup includes John Pak, Vincent Norrman, Brett Roberts, Frederik Kjettrup and Cole Anderson. Greyson Porter is the selected alternate.
“I’m super excited,” Pak said. “We have an awesome team this year. “To have regionals at our home course is a really special feeling. I’m excited for the opportunity.”
Pak and Norrman comprise possibly the nation’s top 1-2 combo in collegiate golf, setting the tone for Florida State’s outstanding year which has included several weeks as the nation’s top-ranked team. Pak was recently selected as one of three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award. Norrman was one of three Seminoles named to the All-ACC Team, joining Pak and Roberts.
FSU plays in its first competition since reaching the match-play finals at the ACC Championship two weeks ago.
Kjettrup and Anderson will play huge roles in FSU’s candidacy toward an NCAA Championship appearance. Kjettrup is coming off an impressive showing at the ACC Championship where he went 2-0 vs. North Carolina and Clemson in match play. Anderson plays in his first competition since being at the Valspar Collegiate on March 15-16.
