the taliban spokesman, zabihullah mujahi, of course saying that we have taken control of the whole of the panjshir province. they say that they were trying to resolve the issue through talks, but when those didn't work, they acted militarily because they couldn't accept a power island in afghanistan. we have heard from the spokesman of the resistance front who, as i said, rejected the taliban's claims. we haven't yet had a specific response to the offer of talks from the taliban, but what they've always maintained is that they are prepared to fight, but they're also willing to talk, but they cannot accept an islamic dictatorship in afghanistan. the two main people who've been leading the resistance movement are ahmad massoud, who's the son of a very powerful guerrilla commander, a man considered a hero in afghanistan, ahmad shah massoud, who was assassinated in 2001. the other person leading the resistance movement has been former vice president amrullah saleh, who says he's
