and in the case of vincent chin he was a chinese-american man working in detroit during a time of an economic downturn in the automotive capital of the world. and as a result so many workers were being laid off from their jobs and it became very easy to blame japanese auto manufacturers because they were producing these fuel-efficient cars during a time when the country was going through an energy crisis. so vincent chin is in a bar celebrating his bachelor party with some friends and he gets into an altercation with two out of work auto workers who accuse him of being japanese and taking their jobs. they get kicked out of the bar. they wait for vincent chin. when he comes out, they chase him down and they beat him to death with a baseball bat. and those two men never served a single day in jail or prison. but that case did become the first ever civil rights case involving an asian american in this country. and when you look at what has
