i had us at 10,800 feet. so we're within 50 meters or so, and we're going to hit this really steep stretch of river that we kind of anticipated might be at full portage, full like two-day portage. >> the portage is basically a way around running a section of river. so you'll put your kayak on your shoulder and hike around that rapid. >> we hit this relatively short section of river, maybe only three kilometers, but it slowed us down to a crawling pace literally because we were like crawling over giant boulders, trying to portage sections of river that were completely unsurvivable. >> there's no point even scouting. when you see the gradient, you know it's not going to go. >> yeah. >> [ bleep ], [ bleep ]. >> hold on. stop!
