oh, my! what a turn of events! and now there is a quiet over the stadium that we haven't heard all afternoon. >> andre: boy, had a chance to really put a stamp on things down there inside the one-yard line. let's have a look at it. you see stalworth right here trying to go airborne. football indeed comes out. >> dave: that is a fumble. >> andre: that is fumble, my friend, and the senior defensive tackle comes up with a fumble recovery. >> dave: now the remembers have 99 yards to go. and now ole miss with some room to operate. >> andre: a lot of teams are afraid to throw the football when you're babied up that far into the end of your field. i like it. back up, take a shot. if you have an experienced quarterback who knows get the football out, you can throw the football down here. >> dave: mccluster has the first down and a lot more. ran out of bounds by jonathan banks. >> andre: he's been quiet, he's been hit, but yet, still, you get him the football, he can still make the big play for you, right here. make one guy, two miss, and now it's the speed. getting himself out of bounds. >> dave: rolls right,ly ting it up, looking for hodge, nearly picked off! >> andre: that would have been number 6 broomfield, who had 5 in e08 in e9, nearly add another one. >> andre: so much so much pressure and so fast. looked like he was expecting hodge to continue down the field. broomfield right here almost makes a nice play. >> dave: mccluster, making a couple of guys miss, including broomfield. he'll pick up about six. >> andre: when you look at it, coming up on about 7 minutes, plenty of time for ole miss. >> dave: with that turnover, you make this a very interesting final 7 minutes. >> andre: big third down here. pretty much four-down territory i would think for ole miss going forward. >> dave: houston nutt wants to make sure they have everybody in the right spot. >> andre: with the momentum that the bulldogs have on offense, i think everybody down is important for ole miss right here. you've got to have something positive going forward each and every down. >> dave: time to look at our liberty mutual play of the game. we go back to an outstanding touchdown grab by shay. >> andre: you look at it, corner of the end zone, you think marcus washington knocks it away. no, shay hodge tips it back to himself. comes down with the foot bull for a touchdown reception. >> dave: what a catch. >> >> andre: that was nice. we've seen some spectacular plays in the football game. that one to shay hodge. bumphis has made a couple of excellent plays in the game. anthony dixon. their first touchdown of the game. >> dave: that is nine games now that hodge has had five or more catches in the game this year. >> andre: big year for hodge. >> dave: hodge with the catch, but we'll see what this is all about at the line of scrimmage. >> andre: when the they stop the play, it's usually for false start. >> referee: before the snap, false start, number 71 on the offense, that penalty is five yards from the previous spot. still third down. >> andre: will make this third down a little bit toucher to pick up for ole miss. going to sit in there ask wait for th wai or the football. [ fans cheering ] >> dave: second tackle on the fly. now 3rd down and 10. now it's third down and 10. >> dave: listen to this crowd. what a football game. over the middle within it's caught! he got hit right in the rib cage and didn't let go of the pigskin! >> andre: and beat a good football player, wright, right up the middle. snead look okay for hodge. incomplete! hodge says he caught it! they will rule it incomplete at the 15! >> andre: that's a tough angle to judge it. remember, it has to be indispucable video evidence. >> reporter: the play is under rear view. ole miss will not be charged with a time-out. >> dave: every play can be reviewed in college football. we'll see if there's enough to overturn this baby. >> andre: i don't know if his leg, like, may have kicked it back into his -- you know, right to where he could possess the football a little bit. >> dave: the ruling on the field is it's an incomplete pass. >> referee: after further review, the ruling on the field is confirmed, pass is incomplete. >> dave: snead under pressure,, dropped at the 30! ferguson came flying in from the defensive end spot to pick up the sack! his first of the year, and it couldn't have come at a better time! >> andre: boy, did he close fast! the sophomore from miami, florida, right here, so fast that jevan snead could not even get rid of the football. once he turns the corner against bobby macy, the freshman right tackle, he is on the back of jevan snead. third town. again, snead hit as he throws. third down. you you've got guys in there just pinning their ears back and turning the corner on jevan snead. you have to go for it here with 5:47, i don't think there's any question. >> andre: kind of surprised there with as aggressive an approach as the bulldogs have taken. defensively, thought you run a nice little draw to mccluster. now you're forced to throw the football. >> dave: andthey'vee getting the pressure put just the front four. >> dave: pass is caught at the 41. city that's a first down! wow, what a throw and catch, and the rebels are still in business! >> andre: boy, a big cushion given up by anderson, the sophomore corner to that side, and you can't give shay hodge that much room. >> dave: snead there throw it again. picked off by broomfield. stays on his feet! touchdown! that's the ball game! >> dave: 64-yard interception . >> dave: 64-yard interception return by corey broomfield. the point after is up and good. it is a 21-point advantage for the bulldogs here at home. this time had played five top 25 teams here at home this year. and the bulldogs playing like they're the team in the top 25. corey broomfield with six picks in 2009. this one won't soon be forgotten by the bulldog by the bulldogs faithful or their head coach. dave mississippi state 41-20. dan mullen didn't . >> dave: dan mullen didn't want his club to forget that 45- 0 loss last year to ole miss, and they haven't. this series is 106 meetings long. it has just been a shocking day. you just didn't see this coming. >> dave: bradley in the open. field. he's out to the 48-yard line. andre, let's go back tot that interception for a td. >> andre: corey broomfield, you see him here. he's a freshman, baiting a quarterback like snead. so he's basically tilling you as a quarterback i'm going to give company the out route, but just kind of bates him into throwing it right here. he brains on the football, and now -- he breaks on the football, and then into the end zone. >> dave: how about dexter mccluster! welcome to the party, dexter. touchdown ole miss! >> andre: hang on. it's not over yet. >> dave: you! >> andre: that's the way that ole miss can get back in the football game. 4:56 left, a couple of scores down. if you score fast, it doesn't matter. >> dave: dexter mccluster in the open field. he needs space. that's all he needs is a little bit of space, and she a touchdown waiting to happen. >> andre: he is such a weapon. >> dave: point after is up and good. joshua sheen connects. now we're back to the 14-point game. 4:56 to play. dexter mccluster has been very, very quiet here in the second half. >> andre: what's the old saying? just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water? >> dave: yeah. the sharks are out. >> andre: the screen pass out in the open feed, he's out in open space, one cut, one missed tackle, on the third level of your defense, and there's no one on the field that's going to catch dexter mccluster. >> dave: chaney had him. but then again, you say that a lot, a lot of guys have had dexter mccluster this year. >> andre: washington had a shot at him as well. looks like banks was the last line of defense, and he chewed up that cushion pretty quick. >> dave: now if you're mississippi state, you have to get a couple of quick touch downs here, and they're going to hang on to the football. >> andre: yeah, this is the first order of business for the bulldogs. >> dave: taken by charles mitchell who had two interceptions today, so now mississippi state will have it at the ole miss 45, and it's all about the clock now. >> andre: how about the job of the defensive coordinator for ole miss? until that play with dexter mccluster, had really held him in check pretty much most of this ball game, but right now thinks just right back to the offense of the bulldogs, and it's been yes, sir relf and anthony dixon and the offensive line of mississippi state. >> dave: here is dixon, met at the line of scrimmage. dropped right there. ole miss uses a time-out. they have two left. they will let the clock tick and try to stop it after second down, i'm sure. credits relf, what a job he has done. played about three quarters of this game, and he has produced. >> yeah, came in, led them on a field goal drive to tie it up in the first drive of the solve. and then two touchdown pass, be a touchdown run to go along with it. he has been spectacular. >> dave: second down and 9. back inside, trahan with him down to to the 37-yard line. boy, trahan and cornell have been tackle machines today. trahan now has 9. >> andre: let's go back and take a look at the day that chris relf has had, starting with the touchdown pass to marcus green. and then again, bumphis breaking tackles, finding his way to the end zone, and then this one. we've seen to tim tebow do it, and now chris relf, and that kind of quarterback lied by the offensive line, take it, direct snap, find your way to the end zone. nice afternoon by chris relf, the sophomore quarterback. >> dave: you mentioned the defensive coordinator. not many teams have been able to figure this ole miss defense out the last six weeks of the off-season. but their best defense has been been their offense taking the ball away from ole miss today. >> andre: they have won in time of possession, and you see him in still couchling up his defense, but they have played outstanding on that side of the football, when you talk about a weapon like dexter mccluster, and the way shay hodge has played on the outside. >> dave: the first down. >> andre: that's the frustrating thing for a defensive unit to not be able to stop the one, they've had their way up front. >> dave: and ole miss has done that all year. this is the first game they've really been chew $ed up in that department. >> dave: well, that just shows you what a great scheme that mullen came up with for this defense. >> dave: dixon, looking toker, to the 0 15, stays in bounds like a heady senior would do. i'm a general manager watching this kid play, i'm getting his phone number. >> andre: yeah, would be hard to pass up anthony dixon in next year's draft. that's for sure. >> dave: that stiff arm, we say it last week in arkansas on a 70-yard touchdown run. >> andre: have to come up with a name for that baby. >> dave: clock under three minutes now. just a couple of good blocks. relf some room to run. >> andre: you know you are clicking on all cylinders when the you have the offensive line giving high fives to each other, firsts pumping. they love that stuff. the offensive line, when you can mix it up, turn the football game over to the big guys up front. boy, that is playing at the highest level right there. >> dave: second down and short. and dan mullen wants a time- out. play clock was at one. with 2:03 left on the clock. clock. it is 41-27 . today's s.e.c. network game has been brought to you by... >> dave: a great day if you are a bulldog fan, not so great if you are >> 2:03 to foe, let's check in with kara. >> well, dave, you're old hat at egg bowl, it's my first time. i was told to look for the trophy. the trophy has changed hands from ole miss to mississippi state, but the bulldogs be waiting. they do not want to bring it out yet. after that dez touchdown, they're holding off a little bit. we should see it after this possession, however. so the egg bowl trophy has chained sides, but it's in hiding right now. >> dave: there is dixon who is met, loses about five on the play. lewis comes up, plays it well. you know, dan mullen since he got this job, did not want his club to forget what happened last year. doesn't even refer to ole miss by their school name, calls it the school up north. the put a clock in the locker room the day he government the job counting down to this game. it has been going since he started the job. every day the players see this. beat the team to up north. >> andre: and it doesn't just take place, you know, here. it's a battle in recruiting, a lot of these players for both -- you recruit the same players pretty much from the state of mississippi, and it's an ongoing battle year-round between these two universities. >> dave: i tell people all the time, unless you're in one of these games, you out to understand the passion here. it is really one of those things dilute don't forget when you come to this rival re. it is a small state in terms of population, but there are -- there isn't a more intense rivalry in the country. >> andre: been a great game. and you warned me, and it has not -- as they say, it has not disappointed. >> dave: here is dixon, stutter steps, did he get the first down? if he did, that was an amazing run! >> andre: unbelievable. that's a guy at 6'1", 235 pounds. >> dave: look at that. i mean, it's just an amazing effort by a guy that's wrapping up his mississippi state career. >> andre: watch a nice kickout block right there, and just the effort. >> dave: and it is a first down. how about that run, that's laying it on the line right there for your football team. wanting to win, wanting to get it done. going to leave everything out on the field. and my last college football game, first half you see it, just 17 yards, boy did he turn that baby around in a hurry. >> dave: that's what he does to you. it may not look pretty in the first half, but the crowd booing because they want dixon to get the touchdown. they're in the v formation. they're going to run the clock out on first down. there will be no need to put another one in the end zone. they're bringing out the golden egg. that's what they play for, since 1927. how about dan mullen? he will enjoy it. houston nutt enjoyed his first egg bowl game last year in oxford, now dan mullen gets a little taste. we've done a few ball games this year, and in a lot of different places, and i don't know if it's ever been this joycey and had this much energy in a stadium all year long. this has been fun to a part of. >> dave: that will do it for the ball game. with 20 seconds left to play, the bulldogs storm the field. the senior out of georgia with the trophy on top of his head. high above so everybody in the stadium can get a look! the game is over! bulldogs 41, rebels 27! oh. announcer: you don't have to be perfect to be a perfect parent. there are thousands of teens in foster care who would love to put up with you. so my uncle calls and he says he's dizzy and he's losing his balance. so, i'm like, "unc, you want me to take you to a doctor?" he's like, "nah--i'm going to look up the symptoms." i said your symptoms are, you're dizzy and you're losing your balance. so he says, "i can't get on the internet because my arm is numb." i said, "well, use your good arm and dial 911!" comedian: stroke's no joke. if you or someone you love is showing symptoms of stroke don't wait 'cause it might be too late. dial 911. time lost is brain lost. >> dave: mississippi state, a top 25 team, working all mississippi state gets it done in the 106th edition of the egg bowl. it was the chris relf anthony dixon show here in the second half that propelled the bulldogs to a win. dixon goes out with a bank. for the bulldogs, they finished the regular season 3-7, 3-5 in league play. it has been a great year here. the party continues in starkville. the bulldogs win it 41-27. so long from starkville. rest of the crew, andre ware, cara so long from starkville. have welcome to another edition of washington post live weekend. ahead, remember one of the biggest fixtures of the dc sports scene. also, i catch up with legendary wide receiver jerry rice. all of that and more. washington post live presented by the green turtle starts right now. thanks for tuning in to washington post live weekend, presented by the green turtle. a sad start to the week, as a dc icon passed away. ieb poland's death was felt throughout the entire city. as the news broke, we caught up with some of the biggest names and more on hissing. >> porter: phil, you played for the man, knew him well. what were your thoughts today when you got the news?
