linda marie macdonald. caption colorado, l.l.c. good afternoon. a bay area high school teacher arrested on campus for allegedly having sex with a student. there is a concern there could be more victims. anne makovec has stunned reaction from students and parents in fairfield. >> reporter: apparently this teacher was arrested on campus last night spent several hours in jail and then was released this morning on a $50,000 bond. obviously, people here parents and teachers are shocked and dismayed. >> oh!! wow! ! >> reporter: that's the reaction at rodriguez high school in fairfield after this 27-year-old english teacher was arrested on campus last night accused of having sex with a male student. >> everybody is shocked. like, whoa, miss killings. >> reporter: the student was 16 at the time, he is now 17 and killings is charged with statutory rape which police say occurred in her vallejo home. they are also looking into the possibility that other students may have been involved with killings. >> for a teacher to get arrested like that is just weird. >> my daughter told me what it this morning. she saw it on twitter. >> reporter: so what are the kids saying? >> free miss killings. >> reporter: killings appears to be popular with students at the school where she taught for five years. >> she would let the kids do whatever they want in the class. >> reporter: parents say this is no laughing matter. >> i feel for her. i think something is going on up here if she has to stoop to that. >> you think it happens at other places you don't think much about it. to have it happen here is like, whoa. >> reporter: probably not surprising to find out that miss killings is not in school. she is on administrative leave right now. she is set to be back in court on november 30. no word from the school administration here. the district did release a very short statement saying basically that they are cooperating with police. allen? >> well, yeah, almost something we hear too much of these days. anne makovec of fairfield, thank you. the cost of cal state degree just got more expensive today. the board of trustees just approved a 15% hike. mark sayre is at san jose state, where some say the increase will price families out of california colleges. mark, here we go again. >> reporter: indeed, allen. here at san jose state and throughout california students and their families now trying to figure out how to pay for this 15% fee increase. an increase that trustees this morning defended as necessary. >> reporter: more than 400,000 students are enrolled in the 23 campus california state university system. today system trustees approved a 5% fee hike effective this academic year and another 10% for the next academic year. here at san jose state, the system's original campus students say the fee hike will have an impact. >> it means that my financial aid is not going to cover it anymore. it has to come from my pocket now. so i know it's going to be a struggle for my family and me. >> right now it's already hard for me to pay for it because of problems. so i don't know, i'll just have to figure it out with my family and going to jc maybe for a few years. >> reporter: trustees say the increases are necessary because of a drop in state funding and an end to federal stimulus funding which has filled some budget gaps. >> this motion will entitle 30,000 more students to have access to that college education. it will mean more classes at convenient times for our students. >> reporter: the current fees of $4,200 per year will go up to $4,900 a year by the time all of the fee hikes are in place. >> school already is expensive enough. so another 15% is even harder for us. especially for myself, where i don't get financial aid. so i'm not sure, i'm not liking this news, not a good way to start the day. >> it just means i'm going to be paying off my student loans a lot longer than i thought i would be. >> reporter: cal state students not the only ones feeling this fee increase pinch, allen. of course, next week in san francisco, the university of california regents will be discussing an 8% fee hike for students in that set of universities. so, fee hikes across the board. >> thank you. the elections a year away but there is one candidate throwing his hat into the ring to be the next mayor of san francisco. >> san francisco has been very, very good to me. every, single opportunity i have had is because of san francisco. >> state for this leland yee has filed paperwork to form an exploratory committee, the first step for the state senator. gavin newsom becomes lieutenant governor in january. the board of supervisors will have to appoint an interim mayor until the election. the tech world is buzzing over a report that oracle has hired a private detective to track down the new ceo of hewlett-packard. oracle is reportedly trying to serve the man a subpoena. they want him to testify in oakland on a copyright infringement case. they claim sap owes oracle billions for unauthorized software. hp won't disclose the ceo's whereabouts. the pg&e executive who admitted to spying on his critics is off the job. william devereaux is suspended with pay. the executive in charge of the utility's smartmeter program confessed to using a fake name to gain access to an online forum that's anti-smartmeter. a.c. transit will not cut service next month as planned. it has reached a contract deal with drivers and mechanics including paycuts and new work rules. the agency expects to save $38 million. and it's down to two cities in the race for host of the 2013 america's cup sailing competition, san francisco and an undisclosed port in italy. yesterday mayor newsom introduce aid host city agreement showing the city's commitment to the sailing tournament. cans of spam, pop-tarts?
