to the list this time? >> it is a new form of persecution. these are government -- this is a government very self-conscious of human rights records. it is a modern government. it doesn't use bloody versions of persecution we see like in saudi arabia and sudan. it uses a whole dense web of restrictive laws and regulations to suppress christian worship and prevent people from worshipping in some cases and being able to replicate themselves. there is not a single christian seminary or higher education facility allowed. these christian minoritiers, all of them are dwindling down to statistical insignificance, 0.15 percent of the entire population of turkey. they are very frail. we are going to see them vanish if turkey doesn't give them religious freedom. >> saudi arabia is on the list. last week the top muslim cleric says all churches should be wiped off the arabian peninsula. they build mosques and schools and neighborhoods, why are they so hostile to the christians. >> it is the belief in saudi arabia, they have 0 tolerance for other religion. the grand mufftee. he is a cabinent minister, appointed by king abdullah and paid for by the state of saudi arabia. they pray on friday afternoon for the annihilation for infidel's christians and jews. mufftees in mecca and ma dena. our government considers it too sensitive. they are a strategic ally, we buy a lot of oil from them. we don't speak about it. one of the only professed christians native to saudi arabia was arrested this past week. >> it is such a double standard. in iran, pastor yousef nadarkhani is facing a death sentence. >> president obama should be using his pulpit to speak out to iran who are hostile to the united states, not an ally. you think about when mahmoud ahmadenijad came to new york and why they put homosexuals to death. he denied they had gays in iran. they want to hide this. they don't want to be known as persecutor persecutors. >> egypt has seen a lot of upheaval in the past year, how will that effect the church there. there is a significant christian church there. >> arab spring is turning into a very bitter cold winter for the christians. first in iraq, arabic secular dictatorship unleashed a lot of forces to drive out the christians. we are very, very worried same thing is happening in egypt. 100,000 coptic christians have been driven out by terrible violence and failure of the police to protect them and their churches. they have turned their guns on the christians. we saw that last october when two dozen christians were killed in cold blood by the police when they were demonstrating for their churches being burned down. >> where do you hope this will go from here? >> tremendously important the united states speaks out. they have a lot of influence with trade and defense. we make a difference. right now the bully pulpit has gone silent. when cops were killed in egypt, president obama made a statement saying both sides must use restraint. drawing an equivalency between persecutors and persecuted. they are in a periless situation. protesters in yemen are demanding justice for joel shrum, an american english teacher murdered in the city of taiz. the people shrum devoted his life to are demanding. >> he worked in the islamic nation teaching poor people english and vocational skills. hundreds of protesters marched holding posters that said we love you, joel. >> all the way from the united states of america having nothing but good intentions, health and peace. >> terrorists in the country claimed shrum was proselytizing and had to be killed. sunday two gunman opened fire shooting the 29 year old dead. he leaves behind a wife and two young boys who moved with him to yemen in 2009. >> what did you achieve now? what is your goal now? spreading the gospel. >> reporter: the island of mindanao is predominantly muslim. because of the constant threats to security and the muslim's goal to establish an independence state, they face intense persecution. >> persecution is strong. this year four house churches closed down after their pastors were killed by muslim extremists. >> this pastor was one that was killed. his wife recalls awakening to the sound of the gunshots that killed pastor mario right inside her home. >> my husband staggered into our bedroom. i was shocked because he was full of blood. i brought him to the hospital right away. he was operated on for eight bullet wounds but did not survi survive. >> a former muslim that converted to christianity. he shared his faith with neighbors. he was not afraid to hold bible studies in his home which he converted into a house church. >> witnesses say a few hours before he was kill d, pastor mario agitated some -- this pastor is a coordinator of the christian and missionary alliance churches of the philippines in this muslim region. >> i admire pastor mario's commitment to the world. this triggered threats to other muslims that converted to christianity. that is why the house churches closed down. >> this didn't stop believers from going to church. they now worship as the only surviving christian church in the city. >> my neighbors warn me i should not go out. when my husband was alive, he said we should always be able to face death for the work of the lord. >> that is why he remains serving more than 30 years. even though church attendance has decreased by 70 percent. he believes the church will still prevail, even if the churches are driven underground. >> we make these people grow in the lord. fasting, bible studies, training, the work of the lord will go on. that is the promise of the lord. i will build my church. the gates of hell will not prevail against it. it includes the ministry among muslims. >> lucille talusan, cbn news, mindanao, philippines. coming up, the safe helping haiti shadow children. >> hard to believe it has been two years after haiti's earthquake. hundreds of thousands are living in tent cities. >> stan jeter reports on what is known as the miracle village. >> reporter: he lost his right leg during haiti's powerful 2010 earthquake. frits is now rebuilding his life in miracle village, a self-sustaining settlement for amputees and other survivors. it is the latest project by florida pastors bobby and sherry bernet who moved to haiti 20 years ago and began running a school and orphans. they couldn't ignore the dead and wounded hit in port-au-prince. they converted their place into a clinic. >> they have heard this is the place where they are going to get care. we know people that suffer horrible tragedies need peace and quiet and love and support. it is not just medicine. it is for the soul as well. as we look around, somebody last night game when they brought 50 patients. >> one patient was two-year-old marie. she grabbed her child and began to run. >> everything growing dark, the baby flew out of her arms and landed in that pot of boiling water. >> after i saw her burnt face i was scared. >> her mother, tragedy followed tragedy, her husband, a construction worker died in the quake, her house destroyed and now her daughter might not survive. a friend took her to the love of child hospital. they sent marie to a ship board operating room for skin graphs. then they gave her and her children a place to stay on orphanage property. tents might not protect them during hurricane season. months after the quake, they began clearing 62 acres of permanent homes. >> we are building 50 houses. building it to a florida hurricane code so it doesn't blow away, grounds, ter mitt treated, lumber has a different chemical. we are confident these are going to last a long time. >> first houses went to amputees. today 3,000 refugees live in their own houses in the village. they have playgrounds, basketball courts, 24 hour medical clinic and schools along with the orphanage. every family cultivates a garden plot. future projects include a church and public marketplace. community is embracing its message. >> for every 250,000 to 1 million people in africa, there is one surgeon. from a young age this doctor made a vow to be a surgeon on call in africa. >> the pan african academy of surgeons and runs a hospital. he grew up in cambodia where his parents were missionaries. he was 14 years old when he felt god's call to become a doctor. >> i saw a man die. he died for lack of basic medical care. my father tried to talk to him about the lord. he said don't tell me about your god, help me. i determined i wanted to could about god. >> he worked to put that to action and his organization trains surgeons to fill the incredible need in africa. the doctors along with the staff and volunteers are meeting the patient's physical and spiritual needs. >> dr. david thompson joins us now. thank you for being here. your parents were killed on the missionfield. that didn't stop you, why was that? >> i was in college studying to become a doctor. when i heard the news they were killed in vietnam, i was very angry at god. during that whole time, god spoke to me. i was really shocked and god challenged me to trust him. i didn't want to trust him. i felt he owed me an explanation. god took me through that in the next few hours. i entrusted myself to god without understanding why. that was a the beginning of a tremendous adventure. >> what is the challenge when it comes to recruiting surgeons to do what you do? >> it is a big challenge. it means throwing yourself on god's grace for your profession. walking away from all kinds of money and resources and recognition of colleagues and say i am going to trust god. taking your family to a strange part of the world, there is all kinds of assumed danagers and diseases. it is a crisis of faith. i told the story about this young woman, people who are coming out of all kinds of spiritual problems, because as children their parents invite spirits to come into them. serious problems that come as a result of that. >> indeed. >> how god delivers them from that. people at their whits end for something as simple as a hernia, gallbladder disease, they can't get anybody to operate. children with i read something that paralleled my life. i realize that god was leading this tapestry of my life and how beautiful that looked and the promise of that. >> one of the more emotional moments is when hanna finds her birth mother. >> i hope that i meant something to you. >> rigbi uses healing for her own abortion. >> he met me, so to speak at the well and gave me that um, the love and grace and to
