but just like yesterday with these winds off the ocean the ocean temperature 43 degrees along the beaches, a lot cooler, temperatures there stuck in the 40's. double scan live showing the bigger picture the low pressure is near kentucky and this has some severe weather associated with it. tornado watches for parts of kentucky tennessee. yesterday 10 reports of tornadoes. that low pressure will move up to our north and west and it will swing a cold front our way and there is a risk that we will see some thunderstorms bubbling up ahead of that. that could turn severe. break it down as far as the risks. the biggest risk with these storms would be damaging winds, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. looks like a moderate risk south of philadelphia. the jet stream could help provide those winds. a low risk around philadelphia and areas up to the north and as far as hail just a low risk south of wilmington and this really is the first time we're looking at the threat of severe weather. a low risk of an isolated tornado but there is a possibility, a slight chance best chance would be south of our region but again a slight possibility. i'll talk more about the system pulling through tonight and what it means for your weekend coming up in the full accuweather forecast sharrie. >> okay, cecily thanks. and you can stay ahead of changes in the weather by checking 6abc.com/weather. you can always find live storm tracker six radar and the seven-day forecast and also get the very latest from our team of meteorologists. >> in other news, saint joe's university is investigating allegations of hazing involving the women's softball team. this is a story you saw first on "action news" last night. sources tell us that freshmen members of the softball team had been forced to undergo hazing for some time now. "action news" reporter chad pradelli has latest from the campus in wynnefield. >> although i don't know any of the details i have to say that hazing is always unacceptable. >> surprising because i haven't really heard about any other hazing incidents here so it's a big deal to hear about it. >> reporter: that was the reaction from students and fellow athletes at the saint joseph's university campus this afternoon. the women's softball team played a game today at george mason university this as the university launched an internal investigation into the hazing. sources say freshmen players were forced to consume alcohol, perform sexual acts involving inappropriate touching and lap dances and do other acts that are too graphic to outline here. jake is a freshman lacrosse player. >> our coaches are very strict about it. they don't want us doing anything like that so i haven't experienced it. >> reporter: players were allegedly given written instructions in a note from upperclassmen essentially telling them this is deliverance week that the time has come for them to show respect. it's time for them to realize their place. if they don't follow these instructions there will be dire consequences. the school release add limited statement due to privacy concerns today that read in part while its investigation in the matter is ongoing realm medial actions have already been taken to ensure the welfare and educational environment for all involved. >> i'm not tolerant with it. i don't think it's very acceptable means of what they say initiation. i personally haven't experienced it. >> reporter: the spokesperson for the university says that those allegations proved to be true those responsible will be held accountable. in wynnefield, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> two suspects are in custody after a double shooting outside of a house party in north philadelphia. happened around 1:30 this morning here on the 2200 block of park avenue. this is near temple university. police say neither the victim nor the suspected shooters were temple students. officials say there were at least a hundred people inside the house when the fight broke out. it spilled onto the street and that's when the shots were fired. al 19-year-old victim is in critical condition tonight. a 23-year-old victim is in stable condition. two suspects are in custody but no charges have been filed. in kentucky nearly 200 firefighters spent the day battling an inferno at the general electric plant in louisville. >> people living within 2 miles were told to stay inside because of the thick black smoke. at one point some of the walls collapsed and it was all caught on camera. this fire started inside one building at ge's massive appliance park. production had to be shut down across the entire complex which employs thousands of people. the company makes a range of appliances at the facility including washing machines, drivers and refrigerators. investigators believe the flames may have been sparked by lightning. no injuries have been reported so far. that fire started in the same area that was hit with flooding today. this video is a view from one man's backyard covered in water. you can also see the smoke from his house. early this morning emergency crews made more than 160 rescues, mostly drivers who got stuck. some vehicles became trapped on the highways and entire neighborhoods were covered in waste deep water. there will be much more on the flooding in kentucky coming up later on world news tonight with david muir. that's at 6:30 right after "action news" at 6:00. >> kenyans are accusing their government of not doing enough to prevent yesterday's massacre at a college by a group of islamic extremists. 148 people were killed. officials say the members of al-shabaab stormed the university looking to kill christians. abc news reporter tina wentworth has the latest tonight. [gunfire] >> reporter: just before dawn four al-shabaab terrorists strapped with explosives moved from dorm to dorm separating muslims from christians. the christians were executed. >> ♪♪ >> reporter: >> closer to home one of two home invasion suspects has been caught in the oxford circle section of philadelphia. it happened at 2:30 a.m. on the 6100 block of sits her street. shorts say the crooks you're going 202 or even locally dekalb pike are some possible alternates. number of crashes all around the big picture. on the boulevard by the old navy. also one northbound approaching ryan avenue and there's a crash in lower merion now along bryn mawr avenue at woodbine avenue. this is the scene along the vine street expressway. it's damp, it's very crowded in both directions the lender of the vine street expressway. crash to avoid in springfield township delco along sproul road at baltimore pike. the one in wilmington along business 13 has cleared but we still have speeds just in the teens along 95 and 295 leading to the delaware memorial bridge. and in pilesgrove township salem county, watch out for a wreck along route 40 harding highway at point's auburn road. busy afternoon rick and "action news" at 5:00 continues in just a moment >> the cdc is warning about a highly contagious bacteria called shaglya. it has become resistant to the antibiotic that typically knocks out the infection. there have been 18 of these drug resistent cases in pennsylvania. six were in philadelphia. the bacteria is not deadly but it causes severeable pain and diarrhea. it's commonly seen at day-care centers where a lot of diapers are changed. the best prevention is proper hand washing. >> all right health check tonight and we're talking a little sports tonight. phillies fans are getting he'll throw out one of the ceremonial first pitches for the phillies opening day monday. and he's giving it a lot of thought. >> i think i'm going to do a changeup. >> kyle has been a huge phillies fan ever since he started watching baseball. >> they went to the world series in 08, he knew all the players. he was two years old. knew everybody. >> and during his time at nemours ai dupont hospital, he's gotten to meet a lot of the players. kyle was born with spina bifida a births defect where the spinal column doesn't form properly. youy he also has hydrocephalus, fluid on the brain. he's had about 17 surgeries. he needs braces to support his legs. >> all right take off. >> and he's getting fitted for a wheelchair for longer distance but his parents say his physical limitations don't slow him down or get him down. >> it doesn't no. >> it's part of his life. >> doesn't phase him at all. >> it's all he's ever really known. >> kyle is the most fun caring child you'd ever want to meet. >> that's why kyle was the perfect choice to help the phillies start the season. he tells me he's excited but also. >> i'm kind of nervous. >> kind of nervous. i would be a little nervous, too, but i'm sure they'll take good care of you. >> a bunch of fans sitting there. >> there will be a lot of fans but i'm sure that they'll be cheering for kyle. and he'll be joined by two others also throwing first pitches. kyle faces many more surgeries throughout his life. his mother reminds other women taking folic acid during child bearing years is the best way to prevent spina bifida. kyle about the weather. expectations as low as they've been in a long time. some people believe this team could lose in the neighborhood of 100 games something that hasn't happened since 1961 and the way they finished spring training doesn't help expectations either. the phillies with two more exhibition games starting tonight, then tomorrow against the pittsburgh pirates. then it is for real. the home opener, the season or monday against shane victorino and the boston red sox. phils manager ryne sandberg he wants to see this team play a little bit better the next few days. the phils only have one win in their last nine grapefruit league games. >> i always like to have things going in the right direction leading up to opening day on a positive note of things and so that's why i think these two games here i think are important for us to get off to a good start, to be playing good baseball. i think baseball's a hard game and i think it's hard to just turn on the switch. >> well, let's hope they can do just that and turn on the on switch. phillies outscored by 45 runs over the last week and a half. that will not cut it especially starting monday against the red sox. by the way for able to react to the nation's latest jobs report. the u.s. only added 126,000 jobs last month and that's the lowest amount since december of 2013. maybe it's a good thing the stocks were closed today. even more disappointing than that is the wage gross. a year ago americans made an average of $24.30 an hour. dat average is $24.86. the unemployment rates remained the same at 5.5 percent. business is really good for tesla. the first quarter the automaker delivered more than 10,000 cars and that's up 55 percent from last year at this time. the electric vehicle maker says deliveries are only one measure of the success and that it does not want investors to rely on them. the cheapest model tesla by the way cost just under $70,000. >> some christian worshipers took a journey through downtown wilmington to mark good friday. their march began with a rally outside the william anderson community center and ended at the episcopal church of saint andrews and matthew. once there they placed their prayers. this is the day christians commemorate the crucifixion of jesus league up to the events of easter sunday. also in wilmington today people were gathering sweet treats for the holiday. there was a long line all day at sweeney's bakery. customers were grabbing up specially decorated cookies pies and cakes for easter sunday. it's one of the biggest days of the year for sweeney's. the "action news" reporter john rawlins is live in center city following this stormy he has more on the search and the capture. john. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. well, this is a score one for technology story. computer based facial recognition. now, the police still had to do the leg work but they say that this system that measures bio metrics of the face gave them a very solid lead. monday this attack of a 60-year-old man occurred on septa's 15 street el platform. the 60-year-old here on the left is allegedly targeted by an unknown younger man in blue as the pair argued righty riding the train. septa detectives took a still of that video of the man in blue and uploaded it to a law enforcement facial recognition database. that contains among other things mug shots and pennsylvania driver's licenses. captain darrell jones is with septa. >> it compares 40 million images from pennsylvania. >> reporter: in this week's case the facial recognition software fed back multiple likely matches. among them a 16-year-old we'll call john jones. >> after we ran the facial recognition software we came up that it was possibly john jones. the percentage was so high in this case it was only 97 percent. we were going to talk to john jones and find out where his whereabouts was where he was at a particular time, find tout that person may have had a trans pass. >> reporter: the captain says that about that time anonymous sources also identified the 16-year-old. soon there was an arrest warrant for the attack. since 9/11 there's been a quest for accurate facial recognition. video from the nec corporation a top developer of systems illustrates the ideal for certain secure sites of capturing facial images of you know known individuals also a they pass, quickly comparing bio metric elements, eyes, nose, chin with known images in a database. the system septa uses is not realtime but is a big time safer. if they have an image they don't have to wait for a tip call. >> it is speeded investigations up from taking days to get someone to call in to give us a tip to taking sometimes minutes to hours to be able to identify or get a starting point on an investigation. >> reporter: facial recognition, not of the stuff of science fiction anymore. septa has used it in the past. they will likely use it in the future. the authority has about 15,000 cameras between its stations and its vehicles. live in center city, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." >> thank you. police in milford looking for the man who robbed a pnc bank. they gave us surveillance pictures of him and the car he was driving. the heist happened yesterday around 4:00 o'clock at the branch on north dupont highway. police say the man flashed a gun and passed a note to the teller demanding money. he left the bank with cash walked to a nearby mcdonald's got into a car and drove off. police are asking anyone who recognizes him to give them a call. in wilmington, police are trying to find the person who shot a man several times near the intersection of seventh and west street. this happened just after 10:30 this morning. investigators say the victim who is in his 20's was shot in the face, the chest and the abdomen. he was rushed to christiana hospital where he's listed in critical condition. two people are hospitalized after this early morning crash in southwest philadelphia. just after 4:00 a.m. near island and woodlynne avenue a car crashed into a pole shearing in it half. the car struck another pole trapping both the female driver and the male passenger. both will to be cut from the vehicle and rushed to presbyterian hospital. injuries are not considered life-threatening. no word on what caused the crash and whether any charges will be filed. >> there's new backlash against anti-muslim ads that appear on dozens of septa buses. the images began running this week. they feature a photo from the 19 40's with adolf hitler talking to a palestinian leader. the text reads islamic jew hatred it's in the quran. state representative dwight evans joined other state leaders and people from diverse religious backgrounds to voice their opposition but they also called this a chance to enlighten the philadelphia community. >> the ad presents an opportunity, an opportunity to inform philadelphians about the true nature of islam. the face of a quarter of the people on this planet with a teaching at its heart that pro claims a message of pluralism and peace. >> septa tried to ban the ads but lost a fight in federal court. the american freedom defense initiative paid $30,000 for the ad space. talking about the holiday bakeries and grocery stores are packed today as people stock up on food for easter. five generations of one family prepared the goodies at stock's bakery in that port richmond. customers come from all over the region to pile up on their favorites like pound cake. >> i live in delaware county. i just traveled 45 minutes to get -- i center out a procession carry across down the historic villa dell la rosa. the good friday procession wound up at the church of the holy sepulcher, the traditional site where jesus was buried. >> a man who survived more than two months stranded at sea is speaking out about his order deal. louis jordan was rescued yesterday 200 miles off the coast of north carolina. the 37-year-old set out in his sailboat named angel on january 23rd. went out to fish. one night he woke up to find his boat capsizing. >> i was flying through the air and somersaulting and all my gps devices and everything, they were all rolling around in this water. >> jordan stayed with the boat rationing out his food and catching fish and rainwater to survive. yesterday a cargo ship finally spotted him brought him aboard and called the coast guard which airlifted him to safety. overnight jordan had an emotional reunion with his parents. he suffered a broken collarbone and was dehydrated but otherwise he lived to tell pole. they're working to make repairs but the northbound lanes remain closed here at the five points intersection. the good news is the southbound lanes here by the lowes home improvement store just reopened so you're getting by once again as you head down towards fort washington but if you're traveling on the turnpike headed towards fort washington watch out. there's a crash approaching the interchange on the shoulder giving us speeds like 13 miles an hour by the norristown interchange on the eastbound turnpike. in somerton watch out for a wreck along byberry road at bustleton avenue. it's not the nicest light knight out there. lights on at citizens bank park going ready for an exhibition baseball game. that means slow speeds on 95 by broad street and the schuylkill eastbound by girard just 18 miles an hour. looking at really slow speeds on 95 in delaware. new castle county just 13 miles per hour as you pass highway one in christiana. also a crash in newark along route four ogletown stanton road at harmony road and if you're down the shore for the easter and passover holidays watch out for a wreck on the garden state parkway northbound near pleasantville. have a nice holiday weekend rick and sharrie. >> you do the same matt. consumer news tonight. do you love or hate your supermarket? for a lot of people that depends on how fresh the products are. a consumer report survey found some supermarkets deliver much fresher food than others. here's consume are reporter nydia han with the details. americans average 83 trips a year to the supermarket spending a total of $5,400 and more than half that money goes toward fresh food but just how fresh is the food you serve to your family and what do you really get your money's worth? consumer reports rated 68 supermarkets across the can country on the quality of their fresh food based on a survey of nearly 63,000 of its readers. >> we asked about the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, store prepared foods and baked goods as well as things like cleanliness, staff courtesy and prices. >> reporter: only about 60 percent are highly satisfied with the quality of their stores poultry and meat and only half are happy with their store's prepared food and bakery options. wal-mart super centers scored near the bottom of the ratings for freshness and most other categories except price. and even when it comes to price, trader joe's and costco got better ratings than wal-mart. the ceo of wal-mart says in part every store i go in has room to improve and if we nail those one store at a time, our short term performance gets better. meantime the supermarket that earned top ratings overall in consumer reports survey, wegmans with locations in pa and new jersey. here's how some of the other supermarkets in our area stacked up in consumer reports ratings. now, this list considers a number of factors including freshness. trader joe's came in at number two on the list with an overall score of 87. costco came in at number six with 84. fresh market is ranked number nine with a score of 83. auld dee got the number 14 spot and whole foods came in at number 15. they both got overall scores "action news" continues in a moment. >> an alabama man walked free this morning after serving 30 years on death row. it all came about with a second look at the bullets found at the scene of the crime. 58-year-old ray hinton was convicted of the 1985 murders of two men in birmingham. well, he was sent to prison based largely on evidence from bullets. but new testing showed the bullets could not be connected to hinton an overjoyed and emotional hinton was met with hugs from family and friends as he walked out of prison today. >> i want to say to the victim's family, i will continue to pray for you just as i have for 30 years a miscarriage of justice not only to me but to the victim. for all that say we believe in justice, this is the case to start showing it because i shouldn't have sit on death row 30 years. all they had to do was test the gun. >> his attorneys say hinton will now go home to try and recover from the challenges of 30 years of incarceration. >> former secretary of state hillary clinton appears to be one step closer to launching a presidential bid. she signed a lease for campaign headquarters in brooklyn. as for why this is significant, well, fdc rules or federal election routes indicate a person has 15 days to form a committee after so-called campaign activity is conducted. that may mean an announcement is close. >> turning to sports, the jersey and this moisture will continue as we go throughout the rest of the evening hours. in fact, there's the secondary wave of energy that we're tracking that's currently over indiana and the ohio valley. that's going o work its way to the north and east as we go throughout the rest of the night. temperatures outside it's 61 in philadelphia, so pretty mild. 66 in dover. 65 in allentown, 56 up in the poconos but along the coast at the boardwalk just 46. same thing in beach haven with the temperature in the upper 40's with that south facing wind. moisture coming in off the atlantic. the shore today definitely much cool intercomparison to inland locations. here's satellite6 along with action radar. you can see we have a little bit of activity peppered about manage of the midatlantic region but off to our west we're tracking an area of low pressure that's currently over indiana pressing into ohio and you can see that we do have a tornado watch box that has been posted for kentucky and tennessee. this will cut up to our north and west but with that on the move we do have to track for the possibility of more unsettled weather as we go throughout the rest of tonight much future tracker six has you covered 9:30 tonight it's mostly cloudy with some showers scattered about and there could be an embedded thunderstorm overhead as well. as we go throughout saturday morning, 4:00 o'clock in the morning, during the overnight hours, that cold front actually works its way to the east. so, after that point we'll start to get some clearing and you can see the bulk of that moisture traveling up to our north and east. saturday morning 8:00 o'clock in the morning it's mostly cloudy, clouds breaking for some sunshine. the winds, however, throughout the day tomorrow are going to pick up. we could have gusts up to 40 to 45 miles an hour. so what to expect for the rest of the evening. tracking showers, a rumble of thunder possibly severe. some of this activity could turn on the severe side. winds could be gusting up to 60 miles per hour and an isolated tornado we do have a low probability of seeing that across our region but again the big concern tonight will be winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour. fast forward into sunday for the holiday for easter sunrise services brighter but cool temperature 39 degrees. midday turning milder and at 53 degrees. by the afternoon a nice mixture of sunshine and clouds, a temperature up to 60 degrees and the easter bunny looks to be okay if you're hopping around on easter sunday. the exclusive accuweather 7-day
