to have a little bit of ice freeze. and a little water freeze. any ice you see is out there is extremely dangerous. we ll see temperatures into the teens. our temperature, a high temperature today, barely made it above freezing. 29 is our low so far. that was matter of fact, we ll be down below that before midnight. right now, this december, two degrees colder than last december. and more to come. more cold air. outside now, we ve got that nice moon and almost a full moon. our temperature out sosideoutsi degrees. look how dry the air is. you walk across the carpet and you touch anything metal. boy, static electricity builds up with the dry air. look at the morning low temperatures this morning. no records, but single digits through the lakes. chicago was 6 degrees. still into the teens around the lakes. there s still a bit of a wind. that wind has not died off all that much with the windchills into the teens. over the last 24 hours with that northwesterly wind, the lake-effect snows finally winding down a bit. almost a foot of snow in parts around buffalo overnight and late yesterday. in and around us, nothing going on on radar nor will there be tonight. the next area of storminess is down here. once again, oklahoma city is getting snow. they ve had over 14 inches of snow so far this month. the average is a couple of inches of snow. they re getting more moderate snows. they ve had their biggest snowstorm ever. that latest storm is bringing some rains down through parts of north carolina. let me take you around the world and show you what s going on. as we re heading into the toward the middle of winter with that wintry pattern, it s more toward summertime in the southern hemisphere. here s that storm in oklahoma. look at what s been happening down in australia. that s a storm that s moving into, again, new south wales. they ve had more flooding today parts of australia and the farmers down there after battling a terrible, terrible drought that went on for years are not complaining all that much about the drought, about the rains in australia. on the other hand, look at what s happening in europe again. more snows in parts of europe. moscow has been enduring another snowstorm, so it s been severe weather in many parts of the world. and very, very cold weather into poland. there s red square. a lot of white showing up. for us, here s what s going to be happening. that snow in the midpert of the country will be coming our way. by the time it gets here, some of that cold will be retreating. the moisture up and over the cold air does set the stage for a bit of iciness on thursday morning. then as we get later into thurz, i think we ll see chilly rain showers here. and certainly no sign, no sign, of any big storm. but nonetheless, it is still an overall cold wintry pattern right on into next week and even beyond. tomorrow morning when you get up and head out, the winds will be light but temperatures will be into the teens. and then for high temperatures tomorrow, we ll be above freezing. once again, well below average. we ll begin to see a lot of increase in high clouds tough the afternoon. temperatures, mid to high 30s. enough moisture with the left-over cold air. then on thursday morning, a lit bit of sleet, a little bit of freezing rain. anything will be a little slick. and then maybe some chilly rain showers for new year s eve. then a storm forms off the coast. more cold air pours in. again on monday, look at those temperatures. i think probably struggling to get to the freezing mark. mornings to about 20 the the sliding glass door, but that was locked also. with the blood running down by face, i couldn t really see too much of anything. she kept hitting me in my head and her and i kind of started tussling a little bit and i just got weak. i fell to the floor. she gave birth to a very healthy baby girl named miracle sky. pat collins will have much more on his exclusive interview tonight at 11:00. police departmeresident oba early findings on the detroit plane incident to be ready by thursday. federal investigators are d digging into the background of the suspect. they re reviewing hundreds of internet postings, including one in which where the subject says he s torn between liberalism and extremism. and new york city is putting its plans in place for new year s eve. they ve products over the shelves. also, well tell you about the health perks of drinking coffee. there i a sad ending today in the search for a missing woodbridge mother. police believe a body found today is that of 39-year-old julie ann crowell. crowell disappeared two weeks ago. police believe she left the scene of an accident, leaving her car and her 8-year-old daughter behind. jane watrel has more on the investigation. reporter: prie william county emergency workers retrieve a woman s body found in the woods. police believe it s julie ann crowell, a mother who hasn t been seen for 13 days. i live right on the street, you know. like ten houses away. she s been there probably the whole time. reporter: the body was discovered this morning after police started a grid search in the neighborhood. about 300 yards from where crowell was last seen. police believe she was under the influence of alcohol when she disappeared. it all started on the night of december 16th. witnesses say an suv coming down the road. it came to a stop and a little girl hopped out. they say a woman went after her, leaving the car in gear. the car then rolled into this tree. donna smith says crowell could barely stand. she was walking and falling, walking and falling. she had an black pants, a white t-shirt and a red vest. she left her little kid. reporter: remand called police as he watched crowell walk away. i didn t know what she was under the influence of, but she was definitely under the influence. seemed to me lake alcohol. she did the whole stumbling-type thing. she was having a really hard time walking around. reporter: he got in his truck and tried to follow crowell as she walked away, but she was gone. neighbors searched for her to no avail. they had between six and ten officers at least canvassing the area, knocking on people s doors. others were patrolling the area. trying to find her. reporter: neighbors say they re saddened by the discovery of her body. i thought she was i was hoping she was okay. i was hoping she was just with friends just trying to avoid the cops, you know. reporter: a 13-day mystery now solved. jane watrel, news4. police are waiting on the results of the medical examiner before they make a confirmation that it is crowell s body. manassas city police are looking for a serial bank robber. the man walked into a northwest federal credit union monday, demanded money and walked out with the cash. police believe this could be the same suspect that robbed a united bank in prince william county. there is a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case. a redskins fan leaving fedex field was the victim of a hit-and-run driver. it happened when washington hosted the giants on monday night football just over a week ago. chris gordon reports. reporter: fans fled fedex field. the road crowded with cars. the stadium, emptyingut early. fans choosing to leave rather than staying to watch the finish of the skins monday night football game against the giants. 48-year-old david cook jr. didn t make it home. the victim of a hit-and-run driver. emotionally, it leaves us wondering who did this, how could they not stop? how could you do this to another human being? reporter: he and his father were in a car stopped at the light. his father decided he wanted to go back into the stadium and root for the redskins to the bitter end. he got out of the car, crossed the road, and was hit by a car in the far lane that just continued on. david cook s son says police on the scene saw a gray honda accord flee, but no one got a look at the license to even know what state it s from. there s a young lady proba y probably maybe late 20s, early 30s who started helping him. i never caught her name or anything, but she started helping him. she was yelling saying somebody needs to help me flip him over. he s going to drown in his own blood. reporter: he was brought to the hospital where he remains in intensive care. with skull and facial fractures, ribs and a leg broken. his wife, karen, says there is another rson besides the hit-and-run driver that she looking for. it was a woman that stopped and helped my husband. he had a blood clot and she had him be flipped over until the ambulance got there. i really want to thank her. i wish i knew your name. because you really helped us. i really want to thank you. it means so much to us. that you helped him. she may have saved his life. she did save his life. reporter: chris gordon, news4. police are investigating this hit-and-run. they re asking anyone who might have seen the accident or may have information about a gray honda accord needing body repair on its hood to call prince georges county crime solvers at this number. 1-866-411-8477. all calls will be kept confidential. if you use the 11th street bridge, expect to see a lot of construction there in the near future. earlier today, transportation officials in the district announced a major $300 million overhaul for the two current spans. they ll be replaced with three overpasses providing connections between the southeast freeway and interstate 295. officials say the new spans will serve about 180,000 vehicles every day by the year 2030. d.c. is planning some major changes in street parking come mid-january. there will be changes in how much to pay and when to pay. drivers will want to pay attention to three developments. most of the city s nearly 17,000 parking meters will cost $2 an hour. parkers will have to start paying on saturdays and parking enforcement hours will be extended to 10:30 at night. officials will make more money from these changes. they also say they expect the changes will ease traffic congestion in the city. tens of thousands of paper and plastic bags are used every day in district grocery stores. starting friday in d.c., it s going to cost you five cents for every non-recycled paper or plastic bag you use for shopping. while many private companies have geared up for the new law, the government is struggling to get recycled bags to seniors and non-profit groups that need them. we re getting as many out as we can. we recognize that the initial hurdle is january 1st. it s when the bill goes into effect and when the people need the bags most, but there will be more bags later. the nickels add up. the new law is intended to reduce trash that ends up in the city s sewers and rivers. the fee will raise money for public awareness campaigns and other recycling efforts. it appears that a former state legislator in maryland may challenge the governor in the primary. george owings has scheduled a news conference for next week. owings is not commenting on reports that he will challenge governor o malley next year, but he said he would not be endorsing o malley for reelection. owings was a former legislator from southern maryland and a former state secretary of veterans affairs. when we come back tonight on news4 at 6, what tuesday. temperatures remain well below average for this time of year. back to you. a children s toymaker is paying more than $1 million for importing and selling toys that contained too much lead. according to the agreement the company, rc2, will pay $1.2 million. while the lawsuit allows them to deny that they knowingly violated federal law. the government maintains the company knew they were importing and selling thomas and friends wooden railway toys with lead levels above the legal limit. the lead was in the paint a other surface coatings. hey, there might be more perks to your coffee than you might think of. a bunch of studies have found that coffee can have benefits depending on how many cups cups you drink a day. it can decrease your risk of developing diseases such as prostate cancer in men, alzheimer s disease, strokes in women, gallstones, diabetes and suicide. but before you reach for your next cup, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. very possible. too much coffee has been associated with miscarriages in women as well as upset stomachs, anxiety and withdrawal symptoms. the tylenol recall is exp d expanding tonight. it involves all 100-count boughtles of arthritis pain caplets. an earlier recall last month involved only five lots of the same medicine. the recall was prompted by consumer reports of a strange moldy smell that sometimes led to stomach upset. federal health officials say the odor is apparently caused by trace amounts of a chemical that may have touched the packaging material during the manufacturing of the pills. you can find out how to get a refund or replacement by calling the tylenol information line. that s 1-888-222-6036. general motors is recalling 22,000 corvettes due to a dangerous roof defect the problem is with the 2005 to 2007 models. gm says the roofs could fly off. the material that glues the roof panel to the frame could come loose when you drive over bumps or when you drive under windy conditions. if you have one of these corvettes, take it back to the dealer where they will install a new roof panel of a different design. just hold on to the roof on the way there. general motors is offering deep discounts on dead brands. the car company is trying to get rid of all its remaining saturn and pontiac cars and trucks. the incentive allows the dealers to sell the cars and trucks to consumers at a living at walter reed medical center have a brighter christmas this year. a local businessman who specializes in decorating homes for the holidays donated $7,000 worth of lights along with 12 of his helpers to decorate the homes of very deserving soldiers. [ inaudible ] reporter: alayna letterman shares a hug and a kiss with her husband jason. a show of love for any couple, but for them it s a sign of resilien resilience. it s it s frustrating. it s really hard. you re trying to adjust to the situation. reporter: jason, a 16-year military veteran, was on his third tour in iraq when he lost both of his legs last year. we were [ inaudible ] may 22nd i got blew up by on ied. reporter: the uprooted the family from georgia to the fisher house. the home is shared by the families of wounded soldiers. and it s located at walter reed which makes it easier for families who have several doctors appointments every day. the fisher house accepts donations like food from the public, but one local business owner really lit up the holidays for the families this year. ted hall in maryland rolled up his sleeves and with his team put up 14,000 holiday lights. the main reason i did this is to help the servants make this feel like a home and to inspire by doing this maybe to inspire somebody to actually do this for their grandmother or their family member or a troop or you know, somebody that they love. it s the same thing we used to do down in georgia here. this is their home and i m trying to make it better for them. wo hall plans on putting up the christmas lights for years to come. that s a nice idea. yeah. coming up tonight at 11:00, we ll have more on the young woman who was attacked for her baby. we ll hear how the attacker tried to cut the child out of the woman s womb and what was going through her mind. and a robber that won t go down without a fight. but an ex-marine is up to the challenge. we ll check that out at 11:00. today police in italy announced that they have recovered a sculpture that pablo picasso created for his daughter. it is called little guitar and it was in the possession of a roman businessman. police say picasso gave the toy to a friend. there were plans for the sculpture to be exhibited at a muse. two years ago, he entrustedhe guitar to a businessman. the guitar was never returned. the businessmanept it for himself in a shoe box. the artist died in january but his widow told police about the little guitar. they recovered it and charged the businessman with fraud. the sculpture is now
