amazing amount of rain right now. it's the same areas that saw heavy rain earlier in the day. look at this train of moisture moving over the same areas over and over again from pennsylvania to the north carolina boarder very heavy rain around the washington, d.c. area especially in anne arundel county. this storm means business. some areas with five, six, seven close to eight inches of rain especially down toward charles county. howard county eastern fairfax, the district. anne arundel and st. mary's county under flash flood warnings right now. i think we see a repeat tonight. look at the rain up in frederick county and montgomery and howard counties. in the east you are looking at buoy and crofton right along that line. and down to the south in and arundell county. this had a torrent warning earlier. no longer a tornadic storm but we have a potential for downed trees that is high. in mechanicsville. where the is moisture coming from straight down i-95. look at this movement straight up i-95. we are going to see a lot of rain tonight. i'll have the details on when all this may end in the full forecast. >> there was significant flooding today. >> the crews handed out sandbags today. in virginia four mile run creek looked like a river this afternoon. aaron gilchrist has more. >> reporter: bystanders posted video on youtube. this is main street at midday. a cell phone caught this guy on video carrying a woman through the water. things were bad enough for some of the businesses to be evacuated and closed. in prince george's county roads had to be closed because of the high water. the creek here receded enough to see the road but drivers heeded the signs. a jogger bounded through the current. even with lulls in the storm, the skies were a reminder as motorists dealt with their frustrations. >> supposed to be at church at 7:00. i have been in this area since five to 7:00 and it is quarter to 8:00. >> this woman stumbled on a water covered road. four lanes shut down. every place i have turned i come back to this identical spot. i just need to go one block. >> reporter: water street is under seven feet of water by some estimates. this has prompted the swift water rescue teams to stand ready through the night after a busy day. >> we responded to at least six calls back to back. most of them were stranded motorists. people trying to drive through the water. >> more than likely we will be out this evening. when it gets dark people drive into the water. >> and the storms aren't expected to end any time soon. there could be more flooding and more water rescues into the weekend. i'm aaron gilchrist, news4 largo. a lightning strike sent two workers from reagan national airport to the hospital. it hit near american airlines gate 32 near 11:00 a.m. two ramp workers were close to where the lightning hit. both are recovering. we'll have up to the minute weather and traffic conditions at 4:30. and you can find them at www.nbcwashington.com. a college student is living with brain injuries after being attacked in adams morgan in the district. this evening his family was out on 18th street northwest offering a reward for information on the attackers. jackie bensen spoke with that family and has the exclusive. >> reporter: this happened 3:00 a.m. saturday just after the bars closed. ben anderson walked with difficulty after being released from the hospital. he says he has no memory of the assault that put him in the hospital. >> i don't know. i got bruises everywhere. i can't stand up on my own. >> reporter: his parents got the call saturday at their home. >> we had gotten back from church at 1:30, 2:30 from howard university hospital that our son was unconscious. >> reporter: ben's mother, a physician told her husband theyed that to get to d.c. right away. >> it's the worst thing you can imagine not knowing whether your child will live or die. >> reporter: a female friend said that the two were walking down the street when someone made a derogatory comment to her. words were exchanged and someone started punching ben who fell down and hit his head and he lost a tooth. >> we came down looking for the tooth. >> reporter: thor andersons have handed out fliers about the assault and are offering a $500 reward for information. >> our motivation is bringing the person to justice not that we get anything out of him for ben but we would like to prevent him from hurting someone else. >> reporter: d.c. police are investigating the assault. they are looking at security camera video from the surrounding buildings. reporting from adams morgan, jackie bensen, news4. tonight in california the republican presidential debate focused a the economy and texas governor rick perry. g.o.p. candidates sparred on how to fix the money problems of the country. mitt romney and rick perry sparred over jobs records. >> texas has lot of oil and gas in the ground but governor perry is not saying he invetted those things. >> michael duka kiss created jobs three times faster than you did. >> george bush and his predecessor created jobs faster than you did. >> that's not correct. >> they all called for a repeal of the health care reform bill and vowed to defeat president obama in 2012. tomorrow night the president will go before a joint session of congress to reveal his latest plan to create jobs. the plan is expected to cost several hundred billion dollars and will include tax cuts and infrastructure projects. many democrats argue the plan is too weak. some republicans say they don't plan to attend. the president's address starts tomorrow at 7:00. you can watch it right here on news4. still ahead tonight, a crane topples at the washington national cathedral. a suspect identified in one of the most bizarre crime sprees in years in our area. as we approach ten 77 expla difficult it was for him to move on. there is a new crane in place at the washington national cathedral after the first one toppled to the ground today. the 500 on the crane came crashing town this morning. it fell along the street line crushing several cars, damaging one of the buildings on the cathedral grounds but not the cathedral itself. >> i'm coming around the corner and hear metal start to bend. i turn around i'm standing over here and this thing came at me. it landed right over here. wow. the most devastating thing i have seen in a long time. >> no one you was seriously hurt. all 9/11 events will go on as planned. police have identified a man who is suspected of attacks on women. he has been charged in one of the cases. since february, nine women have been cut on the backside while they were shopping. investigators believe he has left the area now. they say he drove a 2003 blue honda civic with virginia tags klx 2689. if you know where that man is you are asked to call the police. an actress is hit by a car while out jogging. an with breast cancer. we monitor the severe weather in our area. in the uncertainity and sadness after 9/11 many americans wondered where do we go from here? for those who lost loved ones that question had bigger imp cases. steven push lost his wife on flight 77. he tells us how he moved on and remarried. >> you don't realize it when you lose someone like this you think you will never feel joy again. but time does help ease the pain. it does get better. >> reporter: steven push is a survivor of 9/11. he lost his wife of 21 years. she was on the plane that hit the pentagon. >> this was the last picture i took of her just before 9/11. >> reporter: if you ask he will give you the minute by minute of that awful day, the chaos of the world trade center all the planes, lisa not answering the cell phones. we know the stories. he knows what happens next when the days turn to weeks. >> everybody goes home an they go on with their lives. >> reporter: push appeared on a lot of tv shows to fill the space but not much. they spent 21 years together and he remembers a cab driver asking him a question. ? he said, you know, you lost your wife and your best friend too, didn't you? he said which do you miss most? when i thought about it i said my best friend. >> reporter: two years later he decided to challenge the adage that life goes on. he signed up for a dating service. >> 24 hours later debra sent me a message. >> reporter: down in fort worth, texas, debra was looking for someone. her fiance died of a heart attack just before their wedding. two years later she was looking for a man who understood loss. >> we have people who lose a loved one to death they know what they had and they know they want it again. in ten days i flew down to fort worth and proposed to her five hours after getting off the plane. it was a quick transition. >> reporter: steven and debra have blended their lives and lost loves. their bookcase carries pictures of the world before 2001. while they have created a living testament to the principle that life can go on. >> i still miss lisa. i'm angry about the fact that she was murdered. i don't think i will ever feel different about that. i have a wife. i'm happy. she would have continuing tonight. >> it is amazing the setup right now. we call this training when areas of storms go over the same area over and over again. we saw it fur four or five areas as earlier. some locations have picked up eight inches of rain. that's just today alone. out there right now you can see some rain in the area. we will continue to see the rain as we make our way into the next couple hours in from the south. outside right now you can see 73 degrees. a low of about 64 degrees. nearly five inches of rain over the last three days. that rain is going to continue to move in as we make our way into the night tonight. looking a it the temperatures, 72 degrees with winds out of the northwest at 6 miles per hour. we won't see much in the way of winds unless you get the stronger storms like this one in anne arundel county. you can see that line that extends all the way down to the south. flash flood warnings in effect along the i-95 corridor and includes most of southern maryland as a result of all the rain. a couple of stops in frederick, heavy rain falling in frederick county and montgomery county. this is the biggest storm around crofton as it heads to annapolis. a lot of lightning with this storm. more down to the south and this is the other storm with a lot of lightning associated with it. the rainfall between two to three inches an hour with some of the storms. this one over mechanicsville. and you just widen out here. how much more moisture? looks like the train doesn't want to end any time soon down to through richmond will the continue to pump in moisture. this is how much rain we have gotten in 12 hours. 7.3 inches in charles county. 5.6 around laurel. 5.3 inches. west of the train and you have less than an inch. if you live in winchester or west virginia you didn't see much rain at all during the day today. all of this because of the setup going on from the remnants of tropical storm lee which sits out here to the west. it's not moving much. that means the area of rain may not move much either. we have three tropical storms and one hurricane but they are not on the radar for a couple days. 64 to 70 degrees. the temperatures tomorrow morning areas of rain with some heavy tomorrow afternoon mostly cloudy areas of heavy rain, thunderstorms, 76 to 81 degrees. but we could see more flooding tomorrow maybe into friday before things calm down on saturday and sunday. i'm going fairly dry on saturday and sunday but there could be a couple of showers. it's not going to be anything big however. >> okay, you're the good cop. i'm the
