SAN DIEGO — Students and faculty members at UC San Diego Wednesday described instances of censorship and harassment when speaking about international issues at the forefront of global politics. UCSD’s International House, an on-campus community that promotes international awareness and intercultural understanding, hosted a virtual discussion called “Campus Free Speech in the Shadow of Foreign Governments: China/Hong Kong and Israel/Palestine.” Wednesday night. Participants shared concerns about how international students could face repercussions when returning to their home country for speaking about issues and participating in rallies or protests while in the United States. Participants also shared instances of harassment because of their views on a conflict.
