Why I picked police over varsity lecturer’s job – Ex-DIG, Oyebade ALEXANDER OKERE Y ou turned 60 on Tuesday (December 22, 2020) the same day you retired from the Nigeria Police Force. How did that make you feel? I feel humbled. I feel satisfied and sincerely, I appreciate God because God made it easy for me. The road was bumpy, challenging, demanding and it was such a journey that you don’t even know what tomorrow has in stock. It is such a job that is very dangerous and sensitive like an egg; if you hold an egg too tight, it will break; if you don’t hold it well, it will fall down. There was a lot of sacrifice to make even when it was not convenient. The job needed a lot of humility. I loved the job and tried as much as possible to follow the concept of policing that I called policing with the fear of God. I was a Divisional Police Officer in different places all over the country. I was in Jigawa State and Asaba, Delta State; I was in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. I was also a DPO in Ilupeju, Alausa, Surulere, FESTAC and Orile in Lagos.
