MP Philip Lawrence's bill to help farmers passes second reading

A local Member of Parliament says adding the carbon tax to natural gas/propose, is unfair to local farmers.
Northumberland-Peterborough South MP Philip Lawrence introduced Bill C-206, an act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, which the House of Commons passed at second reading this week.
It received support from NDP and Bloc Quebecois members.
Lawrence says the pandemic has impacted the farming community, adding that his bill will help to make farming more affordable.

OTTAWA, Feb. 23, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) The Canadian Propane Association calls for the support of Bill C-206. “Discouraging the increased use of carbon-intense fuels such as gas and diesel in favour of low-emission energy like propane for agriculture applications would be a win-win for the environment and for farmers’ bottom line,” said Nathalie St-Pierre, President of the Canadian Propane Association (CPA).
Members of Parliament can show their support for both the environment and the economy if they vote in favour of Private Member’s Bill C-206 on Wednesday as it currently moves through the House of Commons. ....

A national farmer-led coalition called Farmers for Climate Solutions  is calling on the federal government to invest $300 million into the agriculture sector to help it reduce its emissions by 10 million tonnes.
“Other Canadian sectors are being well-supported to reduce emissions and reskill the labour force, but farmers are being left behind,” said Arzeena Hamir, the co-chair of the Farmers for Climate Solutions Task Force, in a news release.
