CARSON CITY – Nearly 250 capital city Democrats took time out today to participate in the party caucus, supporting President Barack Obama in a process that held no surprises for the party faithful. The caucus at the Carson City Middle School was one of 118 held around Nevada today as the state Democrat Party gears up for the 2012 election.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump granting full pardons to Jesse R. Benton and John Fredrick Tate of the southern districts of Iowa. In 2016, Benton and Tate were convicted of a variety of charges after offering $73,000 to former Iowa state Senator Kent Sorenson to change their endorsement to (R) U.S. Rep. Ron Paul in the 2012 presidential election. Documents state that Benton, Tate and another Paul aid funneled the money between October 2011 and August 2014. The staffers wrote off the expenses as "audio/visual expenses." Documents also show emails exchanged between the parties about the payments. Benton and Tate were charged with conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, causing false records, causing false campaign contribution reports and false statements scheme. Benton and Tate were sentenced to two years probation, six months home confinement, 160 hours of community service and a $10,000 fine. Meanwhile, Sorenson pleaded guilty to falsely reporting expenditures and obstruction in 2017. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
