Federal agencies are taking drastic measures to keep employees safe with the looming threat of violence surrounding President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, including by hosting additional federal security personnel and even telling some workers to evacuate their homes. 
Following the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol last week, federal offices in the Washington area and around the country are cautioning workers, many of whom are already working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to stay away, effective immediately. The House passed a resolution on Tuesday night calling on Vice President Mike Pence to convene the Cabinet and use the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to remove President Trump from office. However, before the vote was cast Pence sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., saying he would not invoke the amendment. As a result, on Wednesday the House will take up Articles of Impeachment, which charged Trump with “incitement of insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol last week. Trump has delayed key authorities for Biden s team, but the incoming president will likely be able to install key personnel as soon as he takes the oath of office.

Update: After publication of this story, the Office of Personnel Management released a memorandum formally authorizing the hiring authorities discussed in this story. 
President-elect Joe Biden will likely be able to install his appointees throughout government immediately upon taking the oath of office next week, though the outgoing Trump administration has yet to give the incoming president the authority to quickly make those placements.  ....
