Kartik Aaryan's 'Dhamaka' Lands Netflix Deal (EXCLUSIVE)

Netflix has boarded thriller “Dhamaka,” starring popular Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan, and will release the film exclusively on the service.
Aaryan plays a news anchor who gets stuck in a situation with a mysterious bomb blast and must make a choice between his future career or the humanist in him. The film is a remake of 2013 Korean film “The Terror Live.”

The cast also includes Mrunal Thakur (“Love Sonia”), Amruta Subash (“Choked”), Vikas Kumar (“Aarya”) and Vishwajeet Pradhan (“Class of ’83”).
“Dhamaka” is directed by Ram Madhvani, who helmed Disney Plus Hotstar series “Aarya,” the second season of which is now in production. It is produced by former Disney India chief Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ram Madhvani Films in association with Lotte Cultureworks, Globalgate Entertainment and Lionsgate.

Beta Nordic Studios, the umbrella for Beta’s production activities in Scandinavia, has acquired a majority stake in Cinenord, a leading Norwegian production banner specializing in high-end series.
Founded in 2004, the company is led by Silje Hopland-Eik and Alexander Eik, the producer-director duo behind the popular Scandi series “Atlantic Crossing” and “Wisting,” as well as the family franchise “Casper and Emma.”

Cinenord’s pipeline of high-profile scripted projects include “Bergman,” a series about the Swedish icon Ingmar Bergman that Alexander Eik is writing and will direct. “Alexander has been working on ‘Bergman’ for nine years and wants to create a fresh, fun and colorful show about the man behind the artist,” said Hopland-Eik.

“The Mandalorian” star Simon Kassianides is set to make his feature screenwriting debut.
The actor, who plays Axe Woves on the hit Disney Plus Star Wars series, has sold the psychological thriller “The Weatherman” to U.K.-based production house Raw.

Q: Into the Storm,” a six-part docuseries that explores the origins of QAnon, will debut with two back-to-back episodes on
March 21 at 
9 p.m. Episodes will also be available to stream on HBO Max. The series will examine the evolution of QAnon in real-time and reveal how the anonymous figure known only as “Q” uses conspiracy theories and information warfare to game the internet, hijack politics, and manipulate people’s thinking. Additionally, “Q: Into the Storm” will examine QAnon’s influence on American culture and question the consequences of unfettered free speech permeating the darkest corners of the internet. Celeste’s contribution to the Golden Globe-nominated song “Hear My Voice” started with WhatsApp messages recorded in her bathroom.
That’s just one of the revelations in a half-hour conversation with the U.K.’s latest singing sensation, her co-writer Daniel Pemberton and the legendary Sir Elton John, released today by “The Trial of the Chicago 7” distributor Netflix.

Sinnerton will take on the newly created role of creative director and senior VP unscripted, and will report into CEO Johnny Webb. She joins from U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 where she was commissioning editor, news and current affairs and immersive content. At HiddenLight, she will be responsible for growing the company’s slate of premium unscripted content globally.

Australia’s Stranger Than Fiction Films and the U.K.’s Arrow Pictures have teamed for theatrical documentary “River,” commissioned by ABC Arts and BBC Arts.
Exploring the relationship between humans and rivers, the documentary spans six continents. It is directed by Jennifer Peedom, co-directed by Joseph Nizeti and produced by Jo-anne McGowan and Peedom from Stranger than Fiction and John Smithson from Arrow.

Peedom’s previous film “Mountain” (2017) is the highest-grossing Australian documentary in box office history, and completed an 11-week run in U.K. and U.S. cinemas. An earlier collaboration, “Sherpa” (2015), was BAFTA-nominated and won best documentary at the London Film Festival. Spike Lee has set his latest project with Netflix; the Oscar-winning filmmaker is set to produce “Gordon Hemingway & the Realm of Cthulhu” for the streamer, directed by Stefon Bristol.
Lee partnered with Netflix for his latest film “Da 5 Bloods,” which debuted to critical acclaim last June. The movie has since been named the best film 2020 by the National Board of Review, among other accolades.
