Tempest’s new Multi-Function Radar Frequency System will collect and process 10,000 times more data than existing systems thanks to advanced miniaturization and digitalization technologies.
A few months ago, Leonardo revealed to media outlets that the new Multi-Function Radar Frequency System (MRFS), the radar which will equip the Tempest sixth generation aircraft, will collect and process 10,000 times more data than existing systems, or “equivalent to the internet traffic of a large city every second”. The company also said that complete sub-systems have already been built and successfully tested, paving the way eventually to future airborne testing, but did not provide other details. ....

In a boost to India’s fledgling domestic aerospace ecosystem, the Cabinet Committee on Security cleared the Rs 48,000-crore deal for 83 Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, which included 73 Mark 1A versions, on 13 January.
The first big order to the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for Tejas, which will become the backbone of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the coming years, is a landmark in the aircraft’s journey of over three and a half decades.
It is a culmination of India’s effort to build a frontline fighter aircraft, which began in the 1950s. It was in 1961 that HAL’s HF-24 Marut, designed by Kurt Tank, the German aeronautical engineer who built the Luftwaffe aircraft in World War II, first flew. ....

On January 13, 2021, PM Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) gave the green signal for procurement of 83 Light Combat Aircraft, LCA Tejas MK IA for a deal whose cumulative value would be around Rs 48,000 crore. And though it is certainly not the first major domestic defense deal for domestic companies, given a large array of missiles are already made in India, it is certainly the biggest, wherein India’s state-owned aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) would play the role of lead systems integrator and synchronize the work of around 500-odd Indian companies, along with foreign vendors, who would work simultaneously to develop different components that would eventually be integrated in HAL facilities to br ....

The Indian government finally walked the talk on supporting the indigenous defence industry when the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on January 13 cleared the purchase of 83 indigenously designed and developed Tejas Mark-1A Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) worth Rs 48,000 crore. A formal contract, among the largest placed with the Indian defence industry, is likely to be inked between the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) at the biannual Aero India air show in Bengaluru this year. The first jets will start rolling out in three years. They will be an advanced version of the Tejas Mark-1 that made its maiden flight exactly two decades ago. ....
