I have been in the business for 20 years this is by far the most tragic largescale event we have dealt with. Reporter the bus driver was taking students to visit a College Campus in northern california. The drivers of the bus and fedex truck died along with three chaperones and five of the students. Many others escaped by kicking out windows. I see black. Theres fire at the front of the bus. Its crushed in the front. Reporter the ones who made it out could only watch as others died inside the burning wreckage including this couple, chaperones michael and madison, engaged last december in paris. Heres a look at the visible pictures. Plenty of clouds. These are beginning to scour out around mt. Tam and mt. Diablo and we will look for temperatures to climb through the 630s by noontime. We will have some low to mid60s around the bay. In the meantime upper 70s will return for the inland east bay. Mid70s around the Santa Clara Valley and the coast will see mid60s. Out what caused the crash that people. Theyre still piecing together clues in the television between a fedex truck and a bus full of Prospective College students. During the briefing just less than an hour ago, investigators offered a lot of new information. Theyre looking into the report from a witness who said she saw the fedex truck on fire before it hit he bus. Home video shot after the crash shows a plume of smoke. The witness account of flames is from the driver of a Nissan Altima going in the same direction of the bus. That driver saw flames coming from under the cab of the fedex truck when it swiped their car and then careened into the motor coach. That truck and the belling vehicles have been removed from the interstate. Ntsb investigators have begun sifting through the wreckage as part of their inquiry. Theyll start downloading information from a data recording box from the bus but they were not able to recover the recorder from the fedex tractortrailer because it was destroy
