December 1, 2017 Members of the Learning Collaborative envision a world where the powerful influence of social norms in shaping adolescents lives is widely understood, and where projects and programs improve adolescent SRH by applying normative science at scale. Social norms - the often unspoken rules that govern behaviour - can shape the trajectories of young people s lives in consequential ways. This working paper, developed by The Social Norms Learning Collaborative, proposes a tailored conceptual framework - a theoretical roadmap - that articulates the relationship between social norms and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes. The goal is to increase the clarity and rigour of design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of programmes that address the social context of adolescent SRH.
