The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as ‘Shiites’, has petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over allegations of extra-judicial killing against Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State and the state police commissioner, Mr. Ali Audu Dabigi.   The Islamic group also wrote a petition to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Solomon Arase, over the alleged attack and killing of its members by the duo.

Lawyer Accuses Nigerian Police Spokesman Of Using Nonexistent Law To Threaten Citizen Over Social Media Post

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong on Sunday morning accused the spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi of using an amended section of the Cybercrimes Act to threaten a citizen over a social media post.   Effiong pointed out that the law mentioned by the police spokesman was no longer existent.

Take It Back Movement Demands Immediate Release Of FIJ Journalist, Daniel Ojukwu, Detained By Nigeria Police

A pro-democracy and human rights group, Take It Back Movement (TIB) has asked the Nigeria Police Force to immediately release Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).   The group made the call in a post shared on its X account, describing the detention of Ojukwu by the Nigerian authorities as a means to suppress critics in the country.

IPOB Warns Ohanaeze Ndigbo Against Apologising To Northern Nigeria Over 1966 Coup

The Indigenous People of Biafra has warned pan-Igbo organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo against apologising over the 1966 military coup on behalf of the Igbo people.   IPOB made this known in a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, at the weekend, threatening that an order would be given to treat anyone who identifies themselves as an Ohanaeze Ndigbo member - at home and in the Diaspora - as a criminal and traitor should the organisation apologise to northern Nigeria for the coup.

Australian Police Shoot Dead 16-Year-Old Boy After He Stabbed Man

A 16-year-old boy armed with a knife has been shot dead by police in Australia.   The teenager was shot after he stabbed a man in the Australian west coast city of Perth, officials said Sunday.   The incident occurred in the parking lot of a hardware store in suburban Willetton on Saturday night, VOA reports.

Father Of Late Dowen College Pupil, Sylvester Oromoni Accuses Lagos Coroner Of Covering Up For School Management, Son's Bullies During Investigation

Sylvester Oromoni Snr, father of the late 12-year-old Sylvester Jnr, a pupil of Dowen College in Lagos who died under questionable circumstances in November 2021 has faulted the coroner who investigated his son’s death.   Mr Oromoni accused the coroner of covering up for the school management and the bullies, whom he blamed for Sylvester’s death.   A Lagos State coroner’s court ruled that the death of Sylvester was caused by the negligence of his parents and doctor.

MAPOLY Lecturers' Union Gives School Management 7 Days To Implement Nigerian Government's Salary Increment, Others

The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given a 7-day ultimatum to the school management to fully implement the 35 and 25 percent salary increments for workers of the institution, as approved by the government.   Mr. Adegunle Tomisi, ASUP Chairman of the polytechnic, said this in a communique issued on Monday, April 29, in Abeokuta. He said the union would resume its suspended industrial action immediately at the expiration of the notice if the government fails to accede to its demand.

Lagos To Demolish Over 100 Shanties Housing People Under Popular Adeniji Adele Bridge From Monday

The Lagos State Government on Sunday stated that it would undertake enforcement action to remove over 100 shanties housing several people at Adeniji Adele Underbridge from Monday.   It said on Sunday that operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI/LAGESC) and officials from the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) department of the ministry would be given security backup to conduct the operation.
