francisco transgender film festival was founded in 1997 by my friends christopher lee and alex austin, and we are the first and longest running transgender and gender nonconforming film festival in the world. founded at a time when other film festivals would not screen trans and gender nonconforming filmmakers. we are proud to still be part of ongoing movements, supporting expression and leadership of communities of color, immigrants, and all trans and queer people. especially now as we are fighting the negative impact of gentrification against all of our communities. i am very honored and humbled today to accept this commendation. thank you very much. rights in san francisco for over two decades, she was the first transgender woman to serve on the board of directors of san francisco women against race, thank you, i love that organization so much. and the first transgender woman selected to be a san francisco pride grand marshal. her contribution as a community builder have led her to serve on the board of two prominent trans organization, the transgender gender variant justice project and the transgender law center. shauna is a trail blazer. always building visionary movements through bold initiative. during the 1990s, she co-founded the transgender film festival to create spaces for transgender spaces to explore their own legacy, experiences and gender self-determination. also the first of it s kind in the world. showcasing films by and for transgender people. shauna s contribution expands her anti-violence activism. co-founded transaction, an organizing project uniting trans voice, demanding police accountability a ....

crackdown on those individuals speeding and breaking the law and doing things that could create these kinds of accidents. no one wants to see the accidents on the side of the road, no one wants to experience going to a crime scene on the road knowing your loved one has been hit by a car or sadly tragically killed. i remember years ago on turk street and laguna, when a lot of us were hanging out and just kind of enjoying the weather, it was a really nice hot time, like in the fall and my god son was crossing the street on turk at the intersection of turk and buchanan where there s no stoplight and he was hit by a car. we watched as you flew in the air and thought oh my god, oh my god, just to see it, and had no control over what was going to happen was devastating. and luckily he had minor injuries, luckily he survived, and i just really felt strongly, we have to do better as a city. we have to do better with the vehicles that are speeding on our streets. we have to do b ....
