WASHINGTON—With historic firsts abounding, including the nation’s first-ever Black and woman Vice President in the chair, senators confirmed the nation’s first-ever Black woman Supreme Court justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson, to the High Court bench.

Hundreds of people, led by a large contingent of Black women and girls, gathered outside the Supreme Court to support Ketanji Brown Jackson on Monday.

Thomas has been on the Supreme Court since 1991, but Black law students told Newsweek that Jackson would be the first justice they see themselves in.
