Farmers' Protest Highlights: The 'Delhi Chalo' farmers' protest at border points of New Delhi has entered the 82nd day today. Thousands of farmers, especially from Punjab and Haryana, are staging a sit-in protest along Delhi borders. The protest started on November 26, 2020. The farmers are demanding a complete rollback of the new farm reform laws and a guarantee on the Minimum Support
Price (MSP) system being retained. Multiple rounds of talks between the Centre and the farmers’ union leaders have ended in a stalemate. Protesting farmers fear that the new laws will dismantle the MSP system and corporatise farming. The Supreme Court had earlier ordered a stay on the implementation of these contentious laws, hoping it will end the protest. The farm union leaders have also rejected Centre's proposal to suspend implementation of the laws for the 18 months. On January 26, the protest turned violent when some farmers deviated from a pre-decided route for their Republic Day tractor rally and clashed with police. Some protesters scaled the ramparts of the Red Fort. Several protestors and police personnel were injured in the ensuing clashes. The farmers' unions also held a 'chakka jam' on February 6 where they blocked national and state highways to protest the internet ban in areas near their agitation sites and harassment allegedly meted out to them by authorities, among other issues.

Opposition targets spike in fuel cess, calls govt 'petroljivi' | India News

NEW DELHI: The use of the term “andolanjivi” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rajya Sabha to target people behind the farmers’ protests seems to have motivated MPs from the opposition parties to coin similar words to corner the government. Congress MP Deepender Hooda attacked the government on Friday branding it as “petroljivi” for its high dependence on cess collected from petrol and diesel.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh said while the farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the farm laws are “andolanjivis”, they are not “bhashanjivi” and “jumlajivi”. Since the PM’s observation of the ‘habitual protesters’, several leaders from opposition parties have affixed ‘andolanjivi’ before their names in their Twitter handles.

"Proud Andolanjeevi": P Chidambaram, Others Give PM Jibe Life Of Its Own

Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today sought to wear "Andolanjeevi", a term pejoratively used in Parliament two days ago, as a compliment. Purportedly aimed at those irresistibly drawn to mass agitations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used it on Monday in the context of the ongoing farmers' protest against his government's three contentious farm laws.

I am proud 'andolan jeevi', says Chidambaram
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's jibe made during the Budget Session, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday called himself a proud 'andolan jeevi' (one who thrives on protests) and the quintessential 'andolan jeevi', according to him, was Mahatma Gandhi.
"I am a proud andolan jeevi. The quintessential andolan jeevi was Mahatma Gandhi," Chidambaram tweeted.
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Monday said a new community has come up in the country -- andolan jivi -- who can be spotted in every protest and are parasite for the nation.
