Thousands of ride-hailing workers in the US are set to strike at major airports on Wednesday, in what organisers claim will be their largest protest yet. The drivers, employed by firms including Uber and Lyft, are calling for better pay and conditions, including higher wages and access to healthcare. The companies argue that they already provide a fair wage, and Uber has said it does not expect the strike to have any significant impact on its operations.

Rachel Gumpert, a spokesperson for Justice for App Workers, said ride-hailing drivers in other cities may also demonstrate or strike for at least part of the day. Uber said Tuesday it doesn't expect the strike to have much impact on its operations on Valentine's Day. "These types of events have rarely had any impact on trips, prices or driver availability," Uber said in a statement. "That's because the vast majority of drivers are satisfied."

The protest comes as members from Justice for App Workers planned to stop giving rides to and from all airports in 10 cities for two hours on Valentine’s Day.
