Bernie wins, but look who is back on Team Tomic

The Australian Open wildcard surged into the second round after outlasting Japanese rival Yuichi Sugita, who withdrew with a side strain midway through the third set - but not before Tomic put on an "unbelievable" clinic after winning 10 of the final 12 games of the match.
Shunted out to a windy Court 8 on Monday, there was a loyal faithful in attendance to support Tomic's latest career resurgence - and one particularly notable viewer.

The build-up to the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of 2021, has been unlike any other with two weeks of quarantine, a week packed with simultaneous events, a day’s delay due to a coronavirus scare and uncertainty over fitness and form.
But one look at the men’s draw and a sense of familiarly returns. Two-time defending Novak Djokovic is top seed and favourite again followed by the next two – Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem.
Djokovic claimed his 17th Grand Slam in last year’s gripping final, when he fought back to beat Thiem in five. But that final set the tone for the rest of the interrupted season. Thiem broke the hegemony of the Big Three by winning his first Major at the US Open. The next, a delayed French Open, was won by Rafael Nadal to equal the men’s Grand Slam record tally of 20.

American superstar Serena Williams has endorsed Australia's "super strict" COVID-19 protocols as she completes a two-week quarantine in Adelaide ahead of the Australian Open.
But speaking on
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Williams praised the "super intense" biosecurity rules, admitting the 14-day quarantine was challenging with a three-year-old daughter.
"It's super, super strict, but it's really good," Williams said.
"So, Australia right now has, the last I heard, zero cases of COVID. So that is unbelievable, right, the whole country? That is really amazing.
