A $500,000 grant from Connecticut’s Good to Great Grant Program will help improve accessibility by adding a walkway at the Aldrich Art Museum in Ridgefield. The money will lead to what is being referred to as “significant renovation” of the museum’s exterior campus. Work is expected to get underway this fall. The new handicapped accessible walkway will run down the perimeter of the 3-acre property and around the backfield, where there has been a sculpture garden since the museum opened in 1964.

Danbury area charities are benefitting from Amazon’s donation of dozens of pallets of food and other goods. Amazon made the donations directly to the Lions Club at The Summit Danbury. The Lions Club then worked with Danbury Emergency Services to run a commodity distribution exercise on Friday in Danbury, in which local charities picked up goods and food which included food, baby supplies, toiletries, cleaning supplies and other household goods. Rizzo Electrical Contractors also donated the use of two trucks and drivers to pick up the pallets of goods from Amazon.

Yesterday, we told you that Connecticut ranked near the top of the list of states where catalytic converters were being stolen. 31 year old ROBERTO ALICEA of New Britain, pleaded guilty Tuesday on Tuesday, to offenses related to his participation in a stolen catalytic converter trafficking ring that operated all across Connecticut. The average scrap price for catalytic converters currently varies between $300 and $1,500. Alicea was paid approximately $540,000 for stolen catalytic converters. He could face a decade in prison when he is sentenced on September 5.

More than $300,000 has been secured in the newly adopted state budget to advance after-school programming at the Bethel Public Library and Danbury Youth Services. The funding is channeled through the state’s Judicial Branch Support Services and Youth Violence Prevention program. It’s aimed at bolstering the library’s services, increase its resources, and provide a more enriching experience for area youth.

This Saturday, June 10th, is Connecticut Open House Day, and it means that more than 200 museums, art exhibits and brewery tours across the state will offer free admission that day. The annual event is meant to inspire Connecticut residents to learn about all the experiences in their own backyard. Officially, it’s organized by the state’s office of tourism. All participating businesses will offer either free or reduced admission all day, free or reduced admission for four hours, free or reduced admission for the first 25 visitors or a free item with paid admission.
