In New Milford, plans to convert an old funeral home into housing have been given the green light. ANZ Petroleum… a fuel supplier in New Milford… has received approval from the Zoning Commission to partially demolish and convert a former funeral home at 87 Park Lane Road into a single-family house… along with approval to build a four-unit multifamily building on the property too. Built in 1731, the old funeral home has been recognized by the state as the oldest house in New Milford. No word yet on when the project will begin.

United Way of Western Connecticut received $1,050,000 million in Senate Directed Funds to support the launch of a Food as Medicine, “Greater Danbury Food Farmacy” initiative, in partnership with Nuvance Health. The Food Farmacy will be a grocery-style food pantry co-located with the Connecticut Institute for Communities’ Community Center in downtown Danbury. A ceremony will be held on Friday morning at 10, at 120 Main Street in Danbury, and many dignitaries will be there, including Senator Chris Murphy; Senator Richard Blumenthal; and Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito.

Dr. Keshia Smith-Davis, Principal of Great Plain Elementary School, in Danbury Public Schools, has been named the Connecticut Association of Schools’ 2023 Elementary School Principal of the Year. Dr. Smith-Davis began her career as a public school educator in New York and Virginia before joining Danbury Public Schools in 2004 as Principal of Great Plain Elementary School. Her vision and leadership have culminated in a host of recognitions and awards for her school.
