Western Connecticut State University will host its 26th Annual Jazz Fest beginning THIS evening at the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in the university’s Visual and Performing Arts Center, in Danbury. Three Jazz Combos and the Jazz Ensemble will perform beginning at 7 p.m. Special guests “The Kenney Garrett Quintet” perform with the WCSU Jazz Orchestra beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday. Tickets for THIS EVENING are $7 plus fees online and $10 at the door. Tickets for TOMORROW are $35 plus fees online, $40 at the door.

On Tuesday, Governor Ned Lamont announced that he is nominating 52 year old Sandra Slack Glover of Guilford to serve as an Associate Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. Glover joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut in 2004. She currently serves as Chief of the Appellate Unit, a role she has held since 2010. Glover is being nominated to fill the seat on the Supreme Court that was most recently held by the Honorable Maria Kahn, who resigned last month after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

A virtual life sentence was handed out to a man who was convicted of the rape and murder back in 2017, of New Fairfield woman. 38 year old Steven Flood… formerly of New Fairfield… was sentenced in State Superior Court in Danbury, to 50 years in prison for his part in the rape and death of his roommate, 55 year old Susan Guido six years ago. He was also handed 20-year sentences for two counts of first-degree sexual assault. The sentences will run concurrent. Flood pleaded guilty earlier this year. He’s been in custody since the spring of 2017.

An investigation is underway in Redding after a body was discovered at a home on Old Stagecoach Road. Not a lot of details have so far been released, with authorities… including Redding Police and the Connecticut State Polce, citing the active status of the investigation at this time. They have said though, that so far they believe it to be an isolated incident and they also believe there is no danger to the general public. No other information, including the identity of the deceased person, has been released yet.

Police say a Torrington man stole more than $300 worth of items… mainly energy drinks and cat food of all things… from a store in New Fairfield. 37 year old George Craig is facing charges including larceny and impersonation for his alleged connection to the theft of 6 cases of Red Bull, 2 cases of Monster Energy Drink, and a large bag of cat food from Stop and Shop on Route 39 in New Fairfield on April 19. When he was arrested for that, police then learned were also four active re-arrest warrants for Craig, who was taken into custody and held on a $3,000 bond.
