Private Lending: The Way to Reduce Students' College Costs and Protect America's Taxpayers
Under the Administration of former President Barack Obama, the federal government expanded its role in the student loan market dramatically. Today, roughly 90 percent of all student loans are originated by the federal government, leaving a very small share of the market for private lenders. Recent research indicates that the federal government’s involvement has done more harm than good. In fact, the exponential rise of college tuition prices has been attributed to unfettered access to federal student aid.
