Today, Gov. Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced starting Jan. 11th, residents in Phase 1B are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. MDHHS announced changes to who is eligible for Phase 1B and now includes individuals 65 years and older and some frontline workers (school and childcare staff, frontline responders (County, state, and federal levels), and staff in jails, prisons, and shelters). (Courtesy Photo) BENZIE AND LEELANAU COUNTY - The Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department reports three new cases of COVID-19 reported in Benzie County and seven new cases of COVID-19 reported in Leelanau County. The department was notified of an additional COVID associated death today of a female Benzie resident in her 80’s. Seven cases (Benzie-1, Leelanau-6) were removed due to one duplication and the rest were moved to different jurisdictions. The Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department has received its initial Phase 1A allocations of the COVID-19 vaccine.
