Woman dies after being shot in Braddock

A woman was shot and killed in Braddock on Tuesday night. Pennsylvania State Police said the woman was shot once in the chest at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday night and was taken to Forbes Hospital where she died a short time later. The woman’s identity has not been released. State Police

A man suspected of firing at Braddock police was taken into custody Tuesday evening after police say he shot himself in the head.
The unidentified man was alive but listed in grave condition following a standoff in an abandoned house along the 500 block of Lobinger Avenue.
Allegheny County Police said the incident began with a car crash earlier that afternoon.

WHAT IS THE LATEST. KYLIE: I SPOKE WITH THE CHIEF OF POLICE FOR NORTH BRADDOCK. HE TELLS ME THEY WERE ABLE TO CATCH A SUSPECT WHO THEY SAY FIRED AT A BRADDOCK POLICE OFFICER THIS AFTERNOON. I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHAT THE SCENE LOOKS LIKE NOW AT THIS AFTERNOON. IT IS PRETTY CLEAR BUT TAKING PICTURES FROM EARLIER, THIS WAS THE SCENE. A LOT OF POLICE LOOKING FOR THAT SUSPECT. I GOT INFO FROM THE MAYOR OF BRADDOCK. SHE TOLD ME AN OFFICER SHOWED UP TO A NORTH BRADDOCK CALL AND WAS FIRED AT BY A SUSPECT. THE OFFICER WAS NOT INJURED AND A SEARCH WAS UNDERWAY FOR THAT SUSPECT. AT ONE POINT THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT DID CONFIRM THEIR SWAT TEAM WAS ON THE SCENE. WE DID LEARN FROM THE POLICE CHIEF THEY WERE ASSISTING WITH THE SITUATION IN NORTH BRADDOCK. THE CHIEF SAYS THAT OFFICER WHO WAS SHOT AT WAS NOT INJURED AND HE IS DOING OK. A LITTLE SHAKEN UP. WE WILL HAVE MORE INFORMATION ON THE CHARGES THE SUSPECT WILL BE FACING LATER TONIGHT. KYLIE: THIS CASE INVOLVES 43-YEAR-OLD CRAIG GIBSON, A POLICE OFFICER WITH THE NORTH BRADDOCK POLICE DEPARTMENT AND A NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY THAT DID NOT GO AS PLANNED. NAT/S OPEN -- THIS IS OFFICER CRAIG GIBSON TURNING HIMSELF IN ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON. PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS 4 IS THE ONLY STATION AT THE PITCAIRN POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SEE GIBSON WALK IN, THEN LEAVE IN THE BACK OF A POLICE CAR. >> THESE ARE SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS. KYLIE: ACCORDING TO A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT, A HOMEOWNER TOLD POLICE GIBSON SHOWED UP UNANNOUNCED AND UNINVITED AT A PARTY WITH HIS BADGE IN PLAIN SIGHT AND HIS GUN ON HIS HIP. A WITNESS SAID SHE SAW GIBSON TAKE OUT HIS GUN AND STICK IT INTO THE SIDE OF SOMEONE WHO TOLD GIBSON TO PUT THE BADGE AND FIREARM AWAY, SAYING THERE WAS NO NEED FOR IT AT A PARTY. THE COMPLAINT SHOWS GIBSON WORKS AS A DETECTIVE WITH THE NORTH BRADDOCK POLICE DEPARTMENT. POLICE CHIEF ISAAC DANIELE SAYS HE’S SURPRISED FOLLOWING THE ALLEGATIONS. >> I BELIEVE ALL MY OFFICERS SHOULD CARRY THEMSELVES LIKE THEY ARE ON DUTY EVEN WHEN THEY ARE OFF-DUTY. KYLIE: CHIEF DANIELE SAYS GIBSON WAS NOT ACTING AS A NORTH BRADDOCK POLICE OFFICER AT THE TIME OF THE ALLEGED INCIDENT. GIBSON IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED WITHOUT PAY AND AMONG HIS CHARGES SIMPLE ASSAULT, TERRORISTIC THREATS AND RECKLESSLY ENDANGERING ANOTHER PERSON.
